This will never see the light of day but.......

Hello, I thought I might aswell post something so I'll tell you something about my self.

I'm not and "old" gamer in the sense of I haven't played them for that long. When I became a PC gamer the first game i played was battlefield 2 which i must of spent a lot of time playing, it must of been the game that hooked me into Pc gaming for the rest of my life.

The reason I found battlefield 2 so amazing was it's scale, I had never seen anything like it and been a child I did like to watch war movies and this turned me into one of the characters, we (my brother and I) got a headset with the game which had a microphone and a use plug that implemented base which made the artillery raining down on me feel even more real but the base isn't important it is the microphone that is since we began to speak to our fellow squad mates which gave me a sense on attachment to my squad as we organised how we would flank the enemy and take them by surprise and other tactics like that. After a few months of playing in random servers my brother and I began to find out about groups and communities who have servers in bf2 and we began to become part of them. I think one of the reasons bf2 was great was luck because a game isn't made with a community it has to build it and with it only been no the PC it meant it could focus on the features that made communities grow.I could say a lot more about that but I've decided not to, moving on...

After a while playing I discovered these things called "mods" a first I was confused and bewildered but then i did some research no what they are and I found one for battlefield 2 called "project reality" which I was interested in and it was a way of rebooting my passion for battlefield since I had moved on to the "total war series" so I downloaded it which took a while and was quite confusing as stressful but I finally installed it and jumped in and I was hooked again.

What project reality did was it took the concept and engine that battlefield used and put a lot more detail and more ambitious ideas.

The features included:

  • Death comes swiftly if you are hit in weak or important places if it's the leg you might survive
  • A new assemblement of vehicles from the British forces and insurgents
  • New factions like the British and insurgents
  • New weapons and classes
  • They scraped the ability to spawn on squad leaders but replaced it with rally points which a squad leader put down for squad mates to spawn on, it was also was a place to pick a specialised kit, in the spawn screen you are given a few options but not all of them, this meant squads where able to plan assaults with more depth and variety
  • The ability to build defenses like barbed wire and bunkers
  • Brought in some of the gameplay elements from the special forces expansion like grappling hooks.
  • Much larger environments
  • New sound track

And there is more that I can't remember.

It's hard to describe how this mod was amazing but I do have a few stories that are stuck in my head that might aswell share.

We where winning we had all but one of the caps so our commander was ordering most of our teams squads to advance on it but he said to my squad leader that we need to stop enemy vehicles getting to the cap and recommended setting up on a certain road that was between the cap and the enemy's spawn so we all piled into the games equiverlent of a Toyota pickup truck and headed to the road.

It was a long mostly strait road, it was embanked both sides and on one of the sides lay a dark woodland and on the other after the dip of the embankment it went up 20 or so meters forming a hill that ran all the way along the road. My squad leader was driving and suddenly swerved in to the side I described second we thought he was been a terrible driver but he pointed out that there was a bump all the way across the road, big enough to conceal a anti-tank mine from the view of an APC or tank so our engineer placed his mines along the road and my squad leader ordered 2 of our guys to go up the hill to spot if anything was coming, they where both crouched behind a fallen down tree where they could see all the way down the road but where hidden aswell the rest of us sat in the ditch and one manned the mounted gun on the truck.

After a minute or so of waiting the two guys on the hill spotted an APC (armoured personal carrier) heading down the road, everything was silent for me as it grew nearer to the mines then it suddenly stopped, was it cause it had seen us or was young jimmy's dinner ready? The turret turned facing the guys on the hill I heard one of them on VoIP saying "Oh fuuuuuuuu..." the next thing I knew 2 ragdolls rolled down the hill, we didn't know if it had seen us or the mines but my squad leader wasn't taking any chances and stood up and threw a nade at it. I watched as a small black speck bounced of the side of it's armour, the explosion had almost no effect on it except now little jimmy was angry suddenly 3 or 4 guys got out of the back we open fired on them and they instinctively dived and began to crawl to the dip on the other side, whilst the apc began to move forward firing we ducked , the pickup truck was hit killing in gunner the rest of us where able to duck preventing most of the damage but we where all on low health now, jimmy went over the bump and blew up into flames that's that dealt with but there was still the 3 or 4 guys on the other side of the road now beginning to suppress us, in project realilty when bullets start wizzing by your head your screen becomes de-saturated making it hard to aim or pick out targets but I was able to respond with a grenade, after the explosion I heard 2 bodys collapse so I started to push over the road before the remaining guys where able to get their act together I sprant across and road and caught the last guy reloading and was able to line my shot and cleanly kill him.
