For a series featuring two people dressed up in ridiculous clothing, it's oddly serious. I wouldn't have a problem with them taking the piss out of patriotism and goofing around, but the discussion about flag ethics and how America is the greatest country were far to serious, which given recent events also seemed tasteless.
Ugh, the extended cuts aren't worth it. I had been streaming all of the other movies legally, and this one I had to pirate because no service has this 1min longer extended cut
Excellent piece :') I haven't been keeping up with these guest columns, but if any of them are even a quarter as well written and moving as this, then I've really been missing out! A really interesting perspective on abandoned save files. My very first console purchase as a kid was a second-hand Xbox 360. Upon setting it up for the first time I discovered the hard drive still contained the previous owners offline account + save files. I remember how much I loved going through all the games on the hard drive, seeing what state they had left the world, how far they had progressed, and in the case of Bethesda like games, how they had decided to express themselves using the character creator. I didn't know the owner, and so I loved trying to draw conclusions/pin down exactly what sort of person they were.
I can't even begin to imagine how powerful this experience would be like if I knew them personally :( Thank you for sharing this!
@civid:This. Loved how despite not enjoying the game, Austin still gave it the respect of his time. He played all the co-op missions and saw everything the campaign had to offer - and by doing so, he was able to better grasp what the game could have been and highlight the game's mishaps. The review wasn't just "this game is buggy and here's everything that's wrong with it"(Jim Sterling) or "slack...developers"(VideoGamer), he thoughtfully critiqued, and showed that the problems Homefront has were a result of more than one component failing to work, and thus there wasn't a single solution that could drastically improve the game; as the issues ran deep, infecting and touching pretty much all of the game's core ingredients.
Great series!! This game had been on my backlog for a while, and this series encouraged me not only to play through the whole thing, but also pre-order the physical copy (who said Lets plays hurt game sales?!). Really fun seeing how your choices differed from my own - boy was that supposed "good ending" brutal :'( The GB east content is my favourite stuff this site produces; thanks guys ^_^
