Yeah, it sure would be stupid of them to spend all that time setting up that dark energy plotline and not do anything with it, haha.
In contrast to that though, personal stakes court case as a framing device to introduce us to the political effects of the Quarian plight is some fantastic storytelling.
I've played a fair bit with friends, and really the only negative I have is that every run felt exactly the same, aside from which character I picked. The items mostly seem to be straightforward stat boosts, in comparison to something like Isaac or Gungeon.
It doesn't matter so much in the long run, since the game plays great and the basic loop is fun, but it's not hooking me like most roguelikes.
I really don't like that "finishing a hard game" counts as a best moment, but that's probably just because I'm salty they cut Yakuza 6 to keep it on there.
Wanted to wait and see how it played out, but so far I'm not seeing the benefits of the new format. Whenever something got cut, they still had to "say their piece", a lot of the time repeating discussions from earlier. I didn't need to hear Vinny almost word-for-word explain that God of War moment again, or hear Jeff give the same rebuttal to it, for instance. I like the intention, but devoting 3 days to those recaps and cutting half the categories is a bad attempt at a middleground, especially because it didn't actually wind up saving them any time in the deliberations.
Just realizing how negative this comes across, but I am really enjoying the podcasts. I think the format change is a step in the right direction, and they can get way more out of both the recaps and deliberations by ironing out a few kinks.
I really hate that the guys are constantly looking off to the side at what I'm assuming is gameplay footage that we don't get to see. Moreso with today's video because I don't know what half of these games look like, meanwhile they're frequently talking about style/art direction etc.
