I personally believe as the gaming industry grows, the gaming community matures and their taste expands. Everyone is getting more aware on how generic, safe, conservative, and overly accessible friendly Halo is. The video game critics have low standards and they cater towards sensationalism so they praise a game like Halo to get a lot of ratings, because Halo caters towards casual gamers instead of the hardcore gaming audience. Most gamers realized Halo is and was nothing special.

No I'm serious, go to any thread that asks those questions and very few gamers choose Halo.

NOTE: I don't like first-person shooters all that much and I'm not much of a Halo fan, but it's strange to see something like this for something EXTREMELY popular.

Every time I see a thread that asks: “What are your favorite first-person shooters?”, What are the best first-person shooters of the decade?” What are your favorite single-player first-person shooters”, or “What are your favorite multi-player first-person shooters? I rarely see people choose Halo as one of their answers, some do but the majority of posters don’t. It’s strange because Halo is one of the most commercially successful games ever made and they’re critically acclaimed. Games like Red Faction, Black, and the TimeSplitters franchise are often chosen which are not as popular and critically acclaimed as Halo.

Why is that?
