@tobbrobb: Yeah, when I think about DmC, I think I focus more on the tone and setting rather than the combat, mostly cause I don't care about getting SSS every fight nor do I pay attention to that enough to notice, so I can see why people who come to that series because they love the combat and find it no where near as rewarding are left disappointed by it.

That's all I was really getting at. The characters and story and overall tone of DmC I don't like but I won't begrudge someone for enjoying it. There's just a lot of people who insist there's no reason anyone could dislike it besides that stuff and that "change is bad, keep it like the old ones" without ever acknowledging totally genuine criticism of the gameplay. Most of Giant Bomb staff included in that, unfortunately.

@vashyron: It just irritates me how common the "DMC fans were unfair and overly negative toward DmC for no reason" sentiment is. I had zero expectations positive or negative about the gameplay side of it going in and it was super disappointing. I don't just dislike the game because they made Dante look different.

DmC was an above average action game but a poor Devil May Cry game. The lack of a real lock-on, making it stupidly easy to get a high Style ranking with the Devil weapons (seriously you jump straight to like an SS with like 3 hits with the fucking axe), the overall implementation of the Angel and Demon weapons being shitty, making it flat out impossible to get an S rank on most missions the first time playing the game no matter how good you were at the combat, and a bunch of other small touches with the gameplay that Ninja Theory either didn't get or just fucked up make me glad they're not doing another one of those and are going back to the DMC3/4 style. That's not even to say anything about the plot and tone, which I absolutely despised, but that's a personal taste thing. If you're into overly serious edgelords smirking at each other with the only joke being Dante saying "fuck you" a lot then go for it. Personally I like some levity in my demon-slaying action protagonists. All that to say, anybody who thinks DMC fans' poor reaction to DmC was based on "they don't like change" is some real willful ignorance. That game has some legitimately damning issues.

In response to the actual topic of the thread, hopefully this one will be the F&F6 of DMC because F&F6 is my favorite one.
