Hard to Support Giant Bomb

Mature Rating.
Mature Rating.
The Giant Bomb is a great idea, yet here I am, finding it extremely difficult to support the site.

I have a lot of respect for Brad and especially Jeff with regards to their historical work, and what they have done thus far with this site.  Unfortunately, they have decided to allow adult oriented content including questionable images, foul language, and the glamorization of alcohol consumption to permeate their work.

On a site dedicated to games, who thousands upon thousands of impressionable kids visit for information, they push forward activities that are considered inappropriate in most adult situations and especially in the life of children.

What's worse, is there are videos of the gaming companies, partaking in the exact same activities.  Gaming companies are not only promoting their games to the kids on this site, they are engaging in these activities on videos that are posted on the site.  Due to the recklessness of these companies and the complete lack of responsibility they have shown to the welfare of the kids, I will never purchase one of their games.

I don't know where people keep getting the impression that gaming is all about kids.  http://www.theesa.com/facts/index.asp

"The average game player is 35 years old and has been playing games for 13 years.

The average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 40 years old. "

The vast majority of gamers are adults by all legal standards.  The reason so many games are made to fit in the T rating is that some retailers refuse to carry M rated games (Walmart used to refuse M rated games for the same reason they wouldn't carry music with explicit lyrics, though I don't know if they've changed their policy about games).  It's disturbing to me that people expect everyone to coddle children.  I'm sorry, the real world is mostly made up of adults and adult oriented material.  If you don't want your kids exposed to it that's fine, but it's up to you, not everybody else, to filter out the things you don't want them seeing.

Notice that article says the average age of the gamer, and doesn't break down the age brackets at all.  Just because the average age is 35, doesn't mean that 'most' gamers are 35 years of age.  The average age of the game purchaser is 40, which means the person buying is older, and the person playing, is younger (kids).

While it may be true that there are a lot of mature and adult gamers out there, most games are still geared towards a younger audience, and even many of the older gamers game purchases are made with the goal of playing them with their kids.  Most games are still created with a younger audience in mind for a reason, with the outliers aside (GTA IV, God Of War, WoW), they tend to sell better than their mature oriented counter parts.  Historically, games have targeted kids, and for the most part, they still do today.  In fact, the link you posted claimed the following "Eighty-five percent of all games sold in 2007 were rated "E" for Everyone, "T" for Teen, or "E10+" for Everyone 10+.".

A site dedicated to games and content about games, games that are for the most part targeted to kids, will draw a huge younger audience (just look at the posts, blogs, and so forth for evidence), and needs to take greater strides to protect the kids who visit it.
