@christaran: I wasn't expecting it to be quest based but there has to be something pushing the player forward. As other people have said, I guess the big objective is to make it to the "center of the universe" but what that actually means really isn't clear.
Have you played any other survival games? There are never quests pushing you forward. Don't expect that.
I was suprised that reviews largely ignored the technical issues - I am glad Dan has pointed them out. Quite right too. If the technical issues impact on the experience then it should be noted. It's also almost inexcusable that a PC-only game by a PC focused developer releases with so many problems.
@burnttoshreds: I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of his, but SuperBunnyHop had a pretty good video recently going over why it's a bad idea to shove a single player campaign into an otherwise primarily multiplayer game. He made a great point that playing all-bot matches back in the day was the equivalent in some games to having a single player, and how that's totally fine. It lets you learn maps and weapons while playing against the maximum (or least) amount of opponents you'd face in a live match. Even better if you can adjust each bot's difficulty. If that's what Overwatch is aiming to do then that sounds great.
Unfortunately it DOES seem necessary to have a tacked on campaign if you want to move copies of your game, and that's a real bummer.
For me, it seemed like they wanted to do some sort of SP but were hamstrung by the fact they were pushed to get it out as early as possible.
I'm tired of all the womanizing chat about boobs and butts with this series. I don't mind it. It's a Kojima thing. Call me a perv or whatever. Let the man do his thing and enjoy his work. The game is his canvas. Let him paint. I'm tired of rolling eyes and side conversations about it. I think it's just a bunch of guys trying to sound cool to the women who play these games.
Ever tried playing a game in front of your partner and having a character like Quiet come on screen? It's embarrassing.
