Old Games Are Still Great

I know I'm probably in the minority, but when I think about how much time I spend playing games, at least 30% of the games I play are 10 years old, or older. People sometimes get so obsessed with the next big game that they forget how many great games have already come out! Have you ever played The Guardian Legend for the NES? It's fucking awesome. What about Soul Blazer for the SNES?

I'm trying (and probably failing) not to sound like too much of a retrogaming whore, but I really do think that old games often get ignored. Things have gotten better with the Wii's Virtual Console, but the gaming populace is at the mercy of Lord Nintendo's miserly whim. The Virtual Console is not your only choice (and no, I'm not talking about dreaded *gasp* emulation).

If you've still got your old systems, go to a local pawn shop with a couple of friends. They have games there! Sometimes they're pretty rare! If there's a second-hand book, music, or movie store around you, they might have plenty of old games there as well. When you have found something interesting, take it back home and play it with your friends. Scream at your friends about how much they suck. They'll scream back. Trust me, it's a blast.
