I just discovered this "League of Legends" game

... is what I could say if I hadn't actually put a pre-order in for the game before it was announced as F2P and put some nominal time into the beta. I did those things, though, so I guess I'm just guilty of letting the usual parade of games bury me and forgetting about the little Free to Play MOBA.

Or if I'm being completely honest I would also admit that I was pretty intimidated by the (so far undeserved) reputation that the game inherited from its surlier, bigger brother Defense of the Ancients. Players that I've been matched against in Solo Queue  have either been completely helpful and tolerant of me noobing it up or at the very least just as clueless as myself, and I haven't managed to trip over any unreasonable ragenauts yet. A sore winner or two, sure, but nothing actually offensive.

I'm absolutely in love with League of Legends. I'm not sure I've played a multiplayer game that has ever clicked quite so hard with me as this one, with the possible exception of Team Fortress 2. Sure, it's still the honeymoon period so I may find some awful balance issues that turn me off, but at this point LoL seems like a game I could spend a very long time with. It has variety, a very solid map/playfield, an enjoyable pace of game and most importantly an interesting metagame that seems to be constantly in flux. This is one of those increasingly more frequent products that are beginning to make a Free to Play believer out of me. Great job, Riot!

Incidentally, the game that re-piqued my LoL curiosity was Monday Night Combat on Steam, a very good game in its own right, but a somewhat simplified variation on the formula (and with what I consider to be a small handful of balance issues).

It helps to play with people you know. Check out the thread with all of the summoner names and feel free to add me, as well as other Bombers.

Welcome to League of Legends.  Be aware that as you reach higher summoner levels, the shit talking in rounds gets vastly harsher.  Beyond that, I hope you enjoy your endeavors.

I think the overall balance won't bother you much unless you nitpick. The things i have been most unhappy with regarding balance are giant nerfs to beloved champs. I used to play Galio a lot, and now he feels like a shell of his former self.

Glad to see that you are enjoying this great Moba.

Ok, one word of advice. If someone begins to troll you do not respond. Infact It's almost better to ignore the chat channel entirely in some games as it will only distract you and make you mad.

Yeah, I definitely saw a bit of this last night now that I've been queuing with friends and took your advice. Have to say, though, the idea of trolling for psychological advantage is both ridiculous and kinda awesome (see also, baseketball and the NHL.) as long as there are limits.

Anyone know off the top of their heads how the queue system differs when you bring in a partially pre-made group? I seem to do fairly well in solo queue, but going in with one to two other friends tends to land us in a shark tank of a game. Last night's matches were completely shameful. I wasn't able to find much of anything about it in FAQs or the new player boards, but I feel like I'm seeing a pretty marked difference.

It takes all of your ELOs and combines them into the average.

If you're queing as a group, it will match you against other people who are also a group and tries to match numbers if it can (ie, if you're duo-queing with one friend, it will try and find either another duo-que and a random or a tri-que group and it will try and match you against another mix-matched group like yours).

I didn't know this, that's pretty cool actually. It explains a lot.

i got trolled by an eve who filled her inventory with wards, and just fed most of the game.
