I, like many Giant Bomb users, am super hyped about Borderlands. I've got it coming in the mail and should be at my house tomorrow, but I'm torn between the four characters. I've read many reviews and scoured the web for a more in depth look at each character, but can't seem to find enough information on em'.

So at the moment I'm thinking Mordecai because his sniping and overall appearance, but from what I've heard the enemies will more than likely just charge at you. So sniping doesn't seem very practical....

Then there is Lilith who I originally wanted to play because "phase walk" seemed to be a stealth maneuver, and any ninja-like archetype is my first choice. But looking more into her abilities, they seem more geared at elemental damage instead of stealth.

I don't know though, something tells me I'll end playing Roland....

All the classes are great, some are just better depending on if you are playing in a group or solo.

I'm soloing a soldier, which is working really well since they are so self sufficient.

I'm also playing a siren with friends. I just try to set everything on fire, which makes it easier for the rest of the group to take them all out.

@VoshiNova:
I'm playing Mordecai, and I'm having great success with him so far at around level 15. The human enemies mostly shoot at you from afar making sniping very useful. Even for enemies that charge, I am able to get off a couple of shots often killing them before they reach me. I even have some success using the sniper rifle at close range. I almost didn't choose Mordecai because I had read the same things about him you did, but now I'm very glad. His bird is also very handy and can be upgraded with the ability to steal health later for some quick healing.

Turns out Lilith is excellent for solo play once you get started. Its kind of a slow burn the first levels but I´m at lvl 21 right now and I hardly ever die anymore. Phase walk with shock dmg on exit that drains their shields followed by a quick shotgun blast to the head from my 64 x 11dmg + 150% shotgun is mad nice. Phase Walk is also a great defensive manuever to pull off instead of biting that last bullet to take you down.

Im playing Mordecai at lvl i think 43 now.  My friend is playing lillith.  In the early stages, when i had a very good for my level sniper rifle, i was demolishing everything before he could even get close.  Now, he can kill stuff so fast with fire damage out of stealth i dont even try, i just run behind and loot.  The enemies are tougher, so you have to start stringing together really good crits the get relentless and killer up.   I started wearing a survival class mod with health regen for the party just to feel like im contributing.  Hopefully ill find a new rifle in a coupe levels to even things back up, and then i can pop back on the sniper mod for more damage.

Basically, a Firefly mod Lilith is INSANE at high levels.  He's burning everything so fast i cant line up a shot.  He almost never has to fire a gun unless he wants to speed things up a bit.  Mordecai seems very gear dependent, all of your damage is based off of them, so you need to be on the lookout constantly for a good sniper rifle.

I carry 3-4 sniper rifles, 2 or more revolvers, and a smattering of other guns for specific situations.  I have two lvl 35ish legendary sniper rifles (electricity and fire).  explosive sniper rifles early on are GREAT for front loading that damage.  I carry elemental ones for vulnerable enemies, same with my revolvers.  I tried bloodwing spec, its good for novelty for a while, and he does decent damage, but i like being able to snipe dudes down from range and relentless/killer/tresspass is basically required to do that effectively.  Im still having lots of fun with him, just hoping to find a better sniper rifle soon!

@VoshiNova: The thing you have to remember is everybody can equip any weapon. There are so many skills and so little points (even at level cap) that in reality (if you build your character right) mordacai doesn't have to carry a sniper rifle, Brick doesn't have to use rocket launchers, etc. The only big deciding factor is the special abilties for each character.
