Mass Effect 2

In Mass Effect 2 you continue commanding as Shepard, the war hero and savior of the Citadel. The game-play is similar to its predecessor but not completely the same. First, their are bullets, my personal biggest drawback in this sequel. You run out of bullets often and will have to switch to different guns that you may or may-not be as fluent with. Second, leveling up is changed as well. Instead of spending one point to become better in a certain skill tree it has a kind of pyramid system. The first level cost one point, the second two and so-on until the fourth and final. When you reach the fourth level you get a choice of two specialties which are permanent for your team-mates but not for Shepard (you can purchase an upgrade so that you can reset your skill points). Third, it's way too short. I know this game segways into the third and final installment but they could have made this a lot longer. Even if you do all of the side quests and search most of the planets this will only take you about 20 hours, i know that sounds like a lot but for a series as engaging as Mass Effect, that is close to nothing. Dragon Age: Origins, Bioware's other RPG, took more than 40 hours if throughly explored. Thankfully the good things about ME2 out-weigh the bad. The story was amazingly engaging and interesting. The characters each had a believable backstory (for this series) and the decisions impacted the end of the game greatly. Although I didn't like the ammo addition, the shooting mechanics worked well and the action was fun. The biotics were a little more sparse than the original but it always makes me happy to throw an enemy across the battlefield with a move of my hand. Overall, this is a great game that I recommend to FPS and RPG fans alike. Enjoy and keep gaming.
