@deathstriker: yes, but 'boy' is also a commonly used term in Ireland without racial connotations. I think McGregor realised pretty quickly that using it against Mayweather was a mistake, because of all of the historical hang ups Americans associate with it, but he wasn't being racist with it.
"Oh Danny racially insensitive term, oh Danny racially insensitive term, the pipes, the pipes are calling".
We should never normalise the use of derogatory terms (let's not ignore Mayweather's casual use of 'faggot' in his banter), or accept them by providing weak excuses, but at the same time we shouldn't over react to a non-issue or actually create an issue where one doesn't exist.
Was McGregor using the term 'boy' when talking to Mayweather wise? No. Was it racist? Not in this instance as that was clearly not its intent or even unintentional side racism as he didn't use 'boy' because of its racial connection but rather because, well, he's Irish and it's a word that tends to get used colloquially a lot in Ireland.
