I'm working on a web application that will focus on tracking your video game play time (planning on using the Giantbomb API for game data). It seems like most existing sites focus on achievement tracking or backlog/wishlist tracking but not play time... I'm looking for any general feedback on if this sounds useful to you, if you know of existing apps, and on a couple of specific questions:
At this point, I'm planning for users to manually start and stop a timer via a mobile app. Ideally, data could be automatically pulled from Xbox Live, PSN, etc. but none of the major console makers provide an official, open API to grab this data. Is this manual requirement a major obstacle to using a site like this?
How important is it to have the option to enter your own customizable game titles, as opposed to relying on only the games available in the Giantbomb wiki?
My understanding is that there is a new/updated version of the API in development. @jslack has made several references to its development on the forum recently, in particular with regards to rate limiting that was recently implemented. See this thread in particular for some information: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/api-developers-3017/prevent-api-key-misuse-1482561/. As of a few weeks ago, it sounds like it's still in-progress and hopefully coming "soon."
