Best of 2010

This is my GOTY list for 2010.

List items

  • My name is BOlo Santoseeee. Infinite Parachutes. Grappling hook. Thousands of bullets. 80's action movie. Ninjas. Giant chimneys falling down. Biggest world evar.

  • I came for the continuation of Max Payne, I stayed for the atmosphere, the music, the amazing lighting, the amazing sound design, the emotional story, the thrilling game play, the fake TV shows, and the Poet and the Muse. I'm glad I gave this game a second shot. It's the best. It skyrocketed to the top of my list in a rather alarming fashion.

  • An iterated sequel to the best game of 2009. The combat system is perfected, and the story fits really well into the overall plot. Also, still has great lip syncing and animation thanks to its ageless engine. I could play the sword fighting forever. This franchise has the best sword combat.

  • This is another great Ubisoft Montreal game, running on the AC engine, and with pitch-perfect pacing save for one awkward gear puzzle. I think this is the game I've completed the most times on the most platforms in 2010.

  • Epic game with a great soundtrack and well-executed art. Also, a wonderful use of celebrity voice acting. The combat is a little rote, but this is a phenomenal reboot of a classic franchise.

  • The branching story in this game succeeds where most other supposedly choice-filled games fail. Yes, it's an Obsidian game so it's kind of broken, but the story feels truly interactive, moreso even than Heavy Rain, in my opinion.

  • I proclaimed this my Game of the Forever when I first played it, and have since cooled a little on it. I think the pacing here is nearly as good as the pacing in PoP Forgotten Sands, and only some iffy combat bits bring it down.

  • One of the best European/Western RPG's ever. Great music, fun Fable-style combat, and a great huge seamless world that teases you with future locations hours before you finally arrive there. Love it.

  • This game is a blast. The combat is well done, the graphics are great, and it's not ashamed to be a video game. It also includes all the old games from the series. Cool.

  • Amazing engine plus weird Power Rangers similarities = Heck of a game. Second only to Alan Wake for excellent use of Volumetric Fog. I'll play pretty much anything with Volumetric Fog or Smoke.
