A Look Back - Iggy's Reckin' Balls

Iggy's Reckin' Balls, released for the N64 on August 24th, 1998, was a weird racing game developed by Iguana Entertainment(in which members would later leave and form Retro Studios, developer of the Metroid Prime series) and published by Acclaim Entertainment. I remember playing this game all the time as a kid, and despite the strange concept (more on that later), it was a pretty sweet game.

Now, about the title. I just want to get this out of the way real quick. Aside from the obvious sexual connotations that can be made from it, what really gets to me is that Reckin' is spelled without a W. Just pointing that out.

Anyway, IRB was basically a sidescrolling racing game where you selected a character from a list of 8 weird talking ball things. The best character IMO is the one that was just a ball with a giant mouth filled with teeth, no face or anything, just teeth. That guy was pretty sweet. Back to the gameplay, though. What you did was pick a character and a stage, and you competed against up to 3 other humans or AIs to get the top of the tower by going to the platform that allowed for it and using your grappling hook to traverse each level of the tower. You could also use each character's special ability or grapple to slow down or hurt your opponents if they caught up to you. It was a pretty fun multiplayer game.

Sadly, that's about all I remember from the game, as I haven't played it in years :(.

NOTE: This is my first in *hopefully* a series of retrospectives of old, somewhat obscure games, so please keep that in mind as yes, I know it sucked.
