Dragon Age completed!...under 39 hours...

Soo yeah, my ps3 may be under the mercy of Sony at this moment in time, but my lil brothers ps3 was all I needed to carry on my Dragon Age fix. I already had like 4 characters on my ps3, but still creating a new one on my lil brothers was fine by me. Try out a new origin (Dwarf Noble) and with so many ways to play through situations and with the versatilitie of the story, replays even of the earlier stages are still all fun for me.

Completed it a few hours ago, fackin loved the final few chapters, though the ArchDemon boss was a nuisance to figure out concerning the Ballista's and trying to repair them.

Regardless, even though I only completed it today, its one of my favourite games of 2009 most definatley.

My end-game time surprised me, landing under 39 hours....as the title already gave away of course..

Its not like I rushed through the main quest either, I talked to practically everyone, party members and NPC's. I done countless quests for those rich bastards in the Chantry, Mages collective annd those Blackstone mercenaries.
Played through on normal mode and while I wasn't constantly pausing through every battle, I'd definatley say that I riveled through the radial-menu aplenty.

So being 11 hours of the approximate time of completion dissapointed me, especially with regards to people saying that the main story alone could last till around 50 hours??

What about everyone else? Plenty of Dragon Age completionists of cours, wondering what your first playthrough end-time was and how u chose to play the game in regards to your time too.

BTW this is not me complaining about the game being...short....or anything lol. Rather just over how surprised I was at how off target my completion time was.

Hmm I'm about 18 hours in, and so far I've done The nature of the beast quest, the mage tower and I protected Redcliffe village from the undead (didn't do the castle itself)
Maybe 50 hours is pushing it a little, the game doesn't seem that  long
Btw, my friend finished with 160 hours or somethings, which is insane  .  . . .

No idea. I was never just wandering around the place with nothing to do either, I literally did absolutely everything I could and it just so happened to take that long. I never even finished the game after I stopped playing during the final onslaught bit and never went back to it.

80 hours for me first time through.  I was pretty thorough and that includes the Warden's Keep DLC.

Oh yeah, my playthrough was with the Shale quest too. Probably added an extra 40 mins or so, I'm under the impression that the Wardens Keep is just as short too?

The Shale quest was short enough, I remember the Warden's Keep being significantly longer.

I'd say a huge part of it was probably you playing through it on Normal and not pausing much during the battles. Battles can easily take 2-3x as long if you are pausing after every round of attacks. Also, did you spend alot of time talking to all your party members in camp? All that can easily add up, especially with the sidequests that get opened up as a result advancing the dialogue with your party members.

11 hours? Shit, I was barely out of Lothering at that point, you must have gone headfirst into every story mission and not bothered much with side quests or party interaction. My final play time was 42 hours or so with a level 19 human noble warrior by the end of it all.

@sixghost:
I may not of paused like maybe to the extent offf..from how often Dave would of lol But i did pause very frequently, especially during boss battles. And yeah like i said in the blog, i talked to ''everyone'' and I done a few of the party member side quests. Not all though, some of the larger scale ones such as the one involving Flemeth off Morrigan for example.

@punkxblaze:
Yeeeah, u misundestood...I didn't complete the game in 11 hours...i don't even think thats possible. I mean my completion was 11 hours off the common mark of around 50 hours it would take.

@Abyssfull: Ahh. You are correct, I did misunderstand. In that case, your playtime was only a couple of hours off mine. My mistake.

Between doing almost every sidequest (besides the DLC and for some reason the mage's guild quests) and reading through almost every codex entry, my first playthrough ended at 81 hours. If you know how to do everything already, I imagine it being shorter, but every game is. I'm honestly baffled that anyone could come in at a low time without ignoring most of the gameplay and story and just speed-running it.

To put it even more in perspective, my current, second playthrough, in which I've skipped through a lot of the dialogue and all of the codex entries, is now clocked just under 50 hours. I've just finished the urn of sacred ashes quest, and I've got one more event (the Dalish elves) before advancing on to the next section of the game. This is with the DLC.

But judging a game based solely on play hours, to a certain point (because if a game is under 3 hours but excellent quality, you've still got to judge just how much enjoyment you got out of it for what you paid), is stupid.

Thats a fair point, I didn't read a single entry in the codex.

And I'm not judging the game by its hours either, just expressing how surprised i was at how quick I got through it when i've heard so much of its ''epic'' length even for an RPG.

I clocked in at just over 40 hours myself... and I missed out on a lot.

For one, I barely had any party members at the end of the game. I barely had enough to form a party(I had four, I think). I didn't have a single Rogue for the entire length of the game. I played a Warrior, and played semi-good, so I only really had one Mage with me. Still, I really enjoyed my playthrough and I liked how my character turned out.

I was around 50 hours the first time through, but I took my time on a lot of it. The second time through was considerably shorter.

Approx 50 hours to me. Didn't do any of the Blackstone quests though, and not all of the Collective quests.

I was going to say that my first run time may also have been inflated by the amount of backtracking I did (because I didn't have a rogue with lockpicking in my party, I went back through most dungeons afterward and went through the pain in the ass process of hunting down and opening every chest), but I haven't had that problem in #2, and I'm still already at 50 hours.

And I didn't mean my statement about judging games by their length to be aimed at anyone in particular; it was just a broad statement in case anyone got the idea that Dragon Age was a bad game just because it's possible to beat the game before "epic game" length kicks in.

But yeah, I do also think it has a lot to do with how much you ("you" in the broad sense, not you) pause the game. Since I give all my party members specific, direct orders most of the time, I'd guess my combat lasts a lot longer than someone who allows their party to rely on scripts a lot more, or usually only controls their main character.

I didn't too much of the side quests because I have to catch up on a lot of other games.  I think the final time total was about 25 hours.

I finished the game at about 18 hours. I only did side-quests that were particularly interesting, of which there weren't that many.

Oh yeah, peoples playstyle definatley looks to cater to alot of how long it will take. I also did do some backtracking myself, well not through dungeons but to the cities and such, just to talk to the NPC's about recent developments if possible.

I'd usually switch between Wynn, My main mage lass =P, and my rogue. Letting Alastair and Ohgren take all the heat. But yeah, i did rely on scripts for the majority of battles.

My first play through was around 90 hours and I STILL HAD NOT unlocked every class specialization, gotten every codec, gotten every achievement, done every side quest, downed the high dragon, or gotten anyone in my party to sleep with me. Then there's all the different outcomes you can have happen to all the events in the game, random stuff you can encounter in the game such as the superman reference in the field, Jowan (if you let him live), the 3 some or 4 some in the brothel, or sleeping with the hermaphrodite dwarf. How anyone can complete the game in under 50 hours without skipping most of the games content is beyond me.

I've just checked, It say's I've logged in a total of 91 hours.
Wow! That scares me. I completed it over the course of a week and a half.
In terms of spread out over that passing time. :-/

I think I deserved it though. I'd been pushing myself pretty damn hard just before the date of it's release with my Uni coursework so I'd be ahead of myself and leave myself some Dragon Age time.
You'd be amazed how much work you can get done when you have a game to motivate you, lol. :-p
