A great RPG with hours of enjoyable content worth a purchase 0

I’ve previously completed Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, and Dragon Age II. I really like the franchise and EA-Bioware’s focus on storytelling as well as enjoyable gameplay. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a return to a broader story.Without spoiling anything, the initial Dragon Age game told the story of a hero crossing an entire country completing quests, gathering allies, and preparing to stop an ancient evil. Bioware changed the scope for Dragon Age II and inste...

A Superior Sequel 2

(Spoiler-free Review) I enjoyed BioShock 2 more than BioShock. Yes, my enjoyment of the sequel was dependent on a familiarity with Rapture built by the original game. A familiarity that allowed an appreciation of the interesting ideological twists that occurred in Rapture 10-years after the events of the original game. Yet even more importantly, it's a familiarity that allows the overall plot of the sequel to have a more intimate and powerful impact.  Many BioShock and BioShock 2 reviewers co...

Fun Jedi-sim action 0

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, a Jedi-themed shooter with light RPG elements, is one of the better games to use the Star Wars license.    The player assumes the role of young Jaden Korr (gender and species user-defined). Korr is a protégé of Kyle Katarn (protagonist of the earlier Jedi Knight games) at Luke Skywalker's newly reopen Jedi Academy on Yavin IV.  In a Harry Potter-sque twist, as soon as Korr arrives as a student he is thrust into a life-and-death adventure as dark Jedi (sith)...

Great Open World Action, Terrible Storytelling 0

Prototype is an excellent open-world action game weakened by terrible storytelling and shallow missions. Players step into the world of Alex Mercer, employee of the mysterious GENTEK corporation, as he wakes from the dead, determined to recovery his memories amidst a city-wide viral outbreak. Gallery Alex's powers are analogous to Marvel Comic's Venom super-villain: superhuman durability, senses, strength, and the ability to shapeshift his body to pro...

A gem worthy of a purchase by RPG or Horror fans 0

Troika Game's Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a back-catalogue gem that deserved a sequel and is readily available on Valve's Steam for a reasonable price ($19.99 as of June 2009). Why does it deserve a play? GroovyFirst, it offers gamers a rich RPG atmosphere that differs from the usual Swords and Sorcery experience. Anyone familiar with White Wolf's World of Darkness role-playing universe (the basis for this game) or have ever watched David Goyer's re-imagining of the Blade universe, w...

Class-based, multiplayer co-op zombie shooter brings a fun experi 4

L4D has left a very big impression on gamer's imagination. The co-op zombie shooter has been so popular that many zombie games are viewed as how they relate to L4D. Killing Floor isn't really trying to compete with L4D. They offer two different experiences to gamers. Some gamers will like them both, some will prefer Valve's less frantic (relatively) and more polished gameplay more. Some gamers will get a lot of enjoyment out of Killing Floor.  Killing Floor is a first-person shooter. It has a s...

Unique visual style, creative storyline, and solid gameplay 0

Zeno Clash is an excellent action game available only through online stores like Steam or Direct2Drive. It was developed by an indie developer, ACE Team, and has a visual style unlike any game I've played recently.  The game follows Ghat, a young man banished from his homeland. An excellent story told in a non-linear fashion by the use of flashbacks explain to the player who Ghat is and why Ghat was banished. This isn't an RPG or an FPS. This is a very linear game with no opportunity for explor...

Solid RPG/Strategy game with limitations 0

I like Demigod. I pre-ordered the game and participated in the beta. While it is an enjoyable game, I feel underwhelmed by the final product. This game will appeal to players who enjoyed DotA (the Warcraft 3 mod known as Defense of the Ancients) and players who like real-time strategy games. Demigod On the positive side, Demigod is an attractive game with a unique art style. It's not the standard Lord of the Rings / Dungeon & Drag on s art style. The Demigods are all visually interesting and...

Bioshock is a deep and immersive tour de force of a video game. 0

It is for good reason that Bioshock was on many critics and players' shortlist for 2007 game of the year. Even if you aren't a fan of dystopias and first person shooters, you can appreciate this game. Many games claim to be cinematic but Bioshock truly is cinematic. You inhibit a finely-detailed, nuanced world that becomes a vital character in the overall plot. A plot that grapples with deep issues. The nature of capitalism and the perils of a completely free marketThe nature of civilization and...
