  • Just when we thought cinematic gaming had reached its apex with MGS4, along comes Drake and his crew of protagonists, completely redefining our concepts of what games can accomplish.

  • Proving the south is the scariest region in America, L4D2 is a misunderstood tittle, you've never seen Valve regurgitate sequels, why hold it against them when they've managed to give us the rare gift of zombies done right? I would pay the price of entry once a year from now until I'm 80, that is how bad my zombie fetish itches, thanks for scratching Valve, thanks for scratching.

  • ladies and gentlemen, the best selling tittle in history. The fellas at Infinity Ward have become the masters of their domain, No one does MP FPS'ing better, however in the company of the afore mentioned titles, its single player caused it to drop this low. I can't quite place my finger on it, but the best example I can give is that while I was excited about this game the most, I ended up immersing myself in the first 2 tittles on my list, mainly because of their better paced, more compelling single player (Including L4D2!).

  • The timeless mechanics of Mario games continue to bring smiles (and frowns!) to the masses. Although not a particularly revolutionary tittle, no other series has the ability to bring a family together quite like Mario, as it was with us on Christmas morning. Mom, Dad, Billy and Jane (Not our real names) sat down for a session that ended with my 4 year old being the last one alive against the boss, and he stomped him! For those memories alone this tittle makes my list (Even though I'm only in the desert world!)

  • I purchased a PSP GO! specifically for a long trip to an area of Pennsylvania that has been trapped in time, its like traveling back to the 80's. Perhaps it was the isolated locale, or maybe the rhytmic trance this game can put you in, regardless, this game salvaged my sanity, easily making it my portable game of the year.

  • My expectations for this game were quite high, being a fan of the Halo canon, I was excited to experience the events that took place on earth during the Arbiter section of Halo 2 and right before Halo 3. Although Bungie did make a quality product, ODST just felt bland in its presentation. The dark city streets of the hub overworld were extremely difficult to see in, even with the cool looking tron night vision. Add to that the lack of Master Chief and a bare bones horde mode and you'll see why one of my most anticipated games of 2009 fell to the bottom 5 of my list.

  • Remaking a revered classic can be a difficult task, ask Grin, who did great with Bionic Commando: Rearmed, but fell flat on their face with their effort at a modern take on the classic. Developer Next Level Games hit it right on the chin with the modern reincarnation of this beloved series, striking a balance between improved graphics and gameplay while maintaining the classic feel of the series. Punch Out Wii easily stands out as one of the best Wii games of 2009.

  • inFamous took the summer like an electric storm, something about the incremental way you progressed in this game, the way you sort of stuck to everything, and the feeling of freedom as you tore through the city and ofcourse the intriguing plot, Cole as one of the best new heroes definitely came as a "shock" (Im so witty) in 2009

  • Downloadable games are supposed to be arcady fun games that do not offer the same graphical fidelity as full stand alone games, right? Battlefield 1943 destroyed that silly notion, providing a great arcade experience with the graphical prowess to match most disc based games on the market. DICE created the feel of the classic Battlefield formula, the satisfying shooting, the vehicle insanity, all the while shrinking the battles to create a mad dash to capture territories. In a year where great downloadable tittles such as Shadow Complex, 'Splosion Man and Fat Princess raised the bar of what good downloadable games should be, Battlefield 1943 provided me with the most fun, earning my downloadable game of the year.
