The BEST of E3 List! (aka knee jerk reactions to games early in development)

As E3 draws to a close there are plenty of games that were revealed by all the publishers out there. Many of which I am very excited about, but really, these are so early in development who knows if the final product will be anywhere close to my expectations. For all I know, Kirby Epic Yarn could end up being a knitting sim using two wiimotes as the needles. Nevertheless, I'll be following these games very closely and hopefully they won't let me down.

List items

  • This and Street Fighter II were what made me into the fighting game aficionado I am today. The series peaked at MKII, with MK3/MK3U being alright. It went all downhill after that (though to be fair I didn't play MK VS DC which I heard was not bad). Really hoping this can return the game to it's true form and maybe even have a system deep enough to warrant some serious players.

  • If anything will convince me to buy Kinect, it will be this game. Not to say that I am not skeptical of the game and hell even Kinect itself. However, Harmonix has not let me down yet and to see Jeff and Ryan having a blast is just more great testimony. I can see this game being a blast, particularly while in an inebriated state of mind!

  • Sex move monikers aside, Nintendo is giving me more reason to rebuy a Wii. I've always been a fan of using the Disney universe so to speak, and there have been a handful of great Disney themed games to come out in the past such as World of Illusion, Mickey Mania, and the Kingdom Hearts franchise. The artstyle in Epic Mickey look amazing and I like the idea of Mickey being almost an evil character if you decide to play him that way. Can't wait to see more and I hope more Disney characters make it into the game.

  • I'm not going to lie and say I had the fondest memories of Kid Icarus for the NES. I did beat it, even if I had to use the Icarus Fights Medusas Angels cheat to do it, but Nintendo knows how to play the nostalgia card better than anyone else. Since his inclusion in Super Smash Brother's Brawl, Pit has been on everyone's radar and it was only a matter of time before Nintendo responded with a new game. I am anxious to see the game in 3D since obviously screenshots and videos will not be able to recapture it. From the current videos, I am worried it will end up being more of an on-rail shooters, but I will remain optimistic.

  • Kirby and I go way back. Well I guess not as far back as the original Gameboy game, but I did play the crap out of Kirby's Adventure for the NES. Who knew that such a simple looking game could have so much depth with secret exits, warps, mini-games, boss rush mode and more. I've been hooked on Kirby games since, and while not all have been able to match the joy of Kirby's Adventure, it has been a solid franchise overall. Kirby's Epic Yarn takes it to the next level by creating an art style unlike none other. The gameplay looks simple from the trailers, but I'm hoping that hides a deeper game underneath.

  • I've never like the Prime series for Metroid. It just felt odd to put Metroid into an FPS format. Other M looks like a good hybrid of 2D and FPS elements. Hoping they can match the greatness that was Super Metroid while still expanding on it and making it it's own game.

  • A unique 2D platformer from Hudson of all people?? The people who seem to only know how to do Bomberman and Decasport games? I'm just as surprised as anyone else and probably more surprised that the game is generating good buzz. I do love me my 2D platformers so I'll definitely be looking out for this one.

  • I seem to always miss the middle game of trilogies. I barely played Halo 2, but did play a bunch of Halo 3. Gears of War 3 is trending to be the same. Didn't play GoW2 at all, but the 4 player co-op aspect of GoW3 looks too good to pass up.

  • What little time I spent with Fable II, I absolutely loved. The world of Albion was so large and it did a great job of making you feel like your choices made a difference. The amount of things you could do was staggering, and yet still had a good central story to tie it all together. Fable III has its work cut out for itself, I'm looking forward to becoming king and breaking all my promises just like politics today!

  • As mentioned before I loves me my 2D platformers and nothing is more of a 2D platformer than post-SOTN Castlevania games. The sprites on this game look absolutely stunning in HD and seeing huge cross sections of the castle is amazing. This will most likely be an instant first day XBLA buy.
