I thought that the Rainbow Six was supposed to be an international organization? Limiting it to one place seems a bit of a disappointment to me. Especially in New York, of all places...

I'm not ashamed to admit it, I like Tom Clancy games. Especially the SC, RS and GR series. Looking forward to Future Soldier and now this "RS: New York".

Your team members are the international part, though they're NOT saying you're only going to be in new york.

Loved the Vegas games, so hopefully the general gameplay of that won't change to much. Then again i'm not confident in Ubisoft not completely fucking it up.

Sweet. I want an entire mission where you scaffold down the side of the Empire State building and take out different floors.

From what I recall Rainbow Six is a group of counter terrorists...

On top of that, they've limited it to Las Vegas for the last to games. Why should New York be any different?

...there is a brand new cover system that takes you out of the first-person perspective and into the third.

Lol, Kotaku fell for a PR trick. Or they messed something up.
And lol, you, for both misquoting and taking something completely out of context.  They were saying that the game was going to be similar to the more tactical style of the original games (before Vegas) but keep the third-person view while in cover from Vegas.

I love what they did in G.R.A.W. and RSV, trying to make a more meaningful story, which for me personally worked very well for the most part. I love the originals as well, and I hope they bring in the great soundtracks I'm used to when it comes to Rainbow Six to get down the atmosphere.

Does this mean they're going to give a release date for Ghost Recon Future Warrior?  I assume it is coming out soon if they're talking R6 now.

We've also heard that the game will in many ways be a departure from the sameness found in  Rainbow Six: Vegas  and its sequel, and a return to what helped separate the shooter from others of its ilk.

They need to go back, specifically, to Raven Shield or earlier. Lockdown was a bad game, and the Vegas games, although fun romps, did not provide nearly as tight mechanics as RVS, and the multiplayer component was complete horse manure in comparison. There's a reason there's still a community (albeit small) keeping RVS alive with busy servers some 8 years after the game was released. I have never played a fairer, more skill based online shooter since RVS and I fear that we'll never see another of it's kind, at least not from Ubi. I'm not against change and modernisation, and there are plenty of improvements that should have been made to RVS, but if they want to win back the dedicated players who've spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours playing their game, they need to take a serious look at Rogue Spear and Raven Shield and use those as starting points for a new game.

Maybe it's because I've playing Battlefield 3 lately, but those screen shots don't look that great. The skyline looks nice, but there is something about the shading and textures that irks me.

@TheMustacheHero: Rainbow is an international organization made up of the best from all over the world and the games usually took place in locations all over the world, going from one country to another from mission to mission. The Vegas games were a novelty because of the fact that they took place in one very specific location - thats why they were called Rainbow Six: VEGAS. So it is weird for them to go back to having just one American city as the setting again.

I really like them trying to implement a way to avoid the "I can see the whole battlefield from safety" syndrome inherent to most cover systems. I like the peaking mechanic. I do hope that makes it into the game proper.
