R & C Keep Rolling
I was really looking forward, though, to Crack in Time. And, to be honest, is totally exceeded all of my expectations. This might be the best title on the PS3 (keep in mind, I haven't played a ton of games to completion on the console to date, so my experience is, admittedly, limited). It takes the successful formula, adds a more open-ended frame to the engine, and produces an amazing little game.
As the game starts, Ratchet and Clank are separated. Clank is stuck in the Great Clock while Ratchet is trying to find him and continue his search for the other Lombaxes. This is the first game I've played in the series where Clank is legitimately fun to play with. The puzzles in the Great Clock are total mind-benders and amazingly fun to play. You can record up to four version of yourself to run through the puzzles and you actually feel as if you did something impressive if you complete them.
The open-ended mission involve you flying around small moons in each sector and also taking random missions from residents of the area. These levels are not quite to the level of Mario Galaxy, but absolute blasts to play. The moons are small enough to not become tedious, but long enough to make you feel as if you accomplished something if you succeed.
None of the levels are psychotically difficult, but a cakewalk they are not. The boss fights aren't cheap which is rare in these games. The weapons are the usually amazing pieces of artillery. The Groovitron glove comes back and is a blast. The Rift gun is one of the most fun titles ever, where you can produce a black hole where a green tentacled alien named Bob will destroy your enemies for you. Mr Zurcon is still hilarious.
In the story, though, Clank is trying to fully activate the Great Clock while Ratchet is trying to stop somebody from turning it on while also working with a long lost friend of your father to bring the lombaxes back.
This is one of the most eminently playable games I've ever played and the best Ratchet & Clank game ever.
