Monster Mash!?!
Rockstar's latest effort, Undead Nightmare, is worthy of purchase and an exceptional value at ten dollars. Buy this game. Undead is the video game that has done the zombie genre justice.
In Undead you find yourself in the role of Red Dead’s hero, John Marston. Taking place after John has been re-united with his family but before Red Dead’s end-game, Undead begins with the zombie infection of John’s recently saved wife and child. John’s quest to save his family takes him through Red Dead’s entire game map and re-unites him with some familiar faces. Ever wonder how Landon Ricketts, Nigel West Dickens, or Seth Briars would handle a zombie, need not wonder any more. They each react appropriately and humorously to their plight. There are new guns, new ammunition and new explosives. You can burn your enemies with holy water, eviscerate their existence with a blunderbuss, and much more.
For those like me, who were burned out with the Wild West after completing Red Dead, Undead breathes new life into the old West. The main story quest is interesting and meaty, taking about ten hours to complete. But the fun part of Undead awakens during its side missions and non-player-controlled interactions. For instance, you may find yourself beckoned to sit at the camp fire with a traveler whom enjoys seducing the human heads he has collected. You’ll venture through the woods to hunt Sasquatches and the desert to best a Chupacabra. You may even come across each horse of the apocalypse, each with its unique look and trait. When you find “War,” with its flaming mane and tail, and the ability to set foes on fire, you’ll never want to ride another horse again.
Undead Nightmare is game that is filled with surprises. It is fun. It is ten dollars. The value Rockstar has put into this game spits in the face of those other developers who overcharge for much, much less. Head back to the Wild West and burn some zombie.
