A call for justice for a much maligned excellent action game

anybody who hates this game is one of three things:

    a. not good enough at videogames to get over the control complexity

    b. doesn't recognize it for the ridiculous zombie/mutant wrestler it is

    c. a person who has never played it.

    d. a person who mourns the death of survival horror in RE games (see c.)

This game is a hilarious and engaging. If you are playing this game only using the guns, you are not going to appreciate the rewards of melee combat. Want to grapple a giant zombie lizard and knee it in the face multiple times before uppercutting it into a quivering pile of loot? Check. Want to quick shot a mutant, spin him around with a kick combo and then lariat his face into the floor as his head explodes? Check. Shoot the legs out of a zombie and drop the People's Elbow on them as they collapse to the ground? Also check.

You might hear concerns about the graphics. It's true that backgrounds have low resolution textures due to console limitations, but the characters themselves are excellently animated. They are emotive and detailed. Faces are often peppered with dirt, dowsed in sweat, and glowing warmly from the burning wreck just off screen. Their eyes glow with reflection, will grow wide with terror or narrow with machismo. And the enemies? There is something to be said for this level of weird mutated growth. Resident Evil has been following this direction for some time, and they improve upon it with each major iteration.

The amount of value that RE6 gives is plentiful. There are 4 separate campaigns which each last around 6-8 hours. There are plenty of unlockable abilities. The mercenary mode on PC (no mercy) is a non-stop action movie which includes the 4 Left4Dead2 cast as playable characters, each with their own moves and loadouts.

There are few game campaigns I will return to after I have completed a title but RE6 is one of them. It feels like watching a hilarious over the top action movie every time you play it. The production value is noticeable. But if you have problems with split second QTEs, figuring out where to go, or issues with ammo because you do nothing but fire weapons, this might not be the title for you.

Ambition can take you only so far 0

If there's one thing you can credit Resident Evil 6 for is its ambition. Whereas previously the action and story were relatively intimate with it focusing on one core ordeal and seeing characters through it; Resident Evil 6 is all over the map. Literally. With high production values, no less than 4 campaigns with an interwoven storyline that's quite impressive, every part of RE6 should impress you to its core. Except it doesn't, at least most of the time as the game seems to be in a weird state...
