An unnecessary release that takes focus away from the true masterpiece 0

The first batch of DLC for Resident Evil 7: biohazard comes just a mere seven days after the game was released. In case you have missed all coverage of the game I would advise you to go check out my review of the main game. It’s a modern horror masterpiece and a must play. However with DLC coming so soon after release, and a season pass that feels very unnecessary for this game, I was concerned to say the least. Having now played Banned Footage Vol 1; those concerns have become a reality.T...

Two great new modes (and one poor one) that add more replayabilty to a classic 0

The second wave of DLC for the incredible Resident Evil 7: biohazard has arrived in the form of Banned Footage Vol.2. Much like Vol.1 it comes with three different modes to play. Of course it's part of the season pass with a third unannounced part to follow in the future. Vol.1 felt like content that should have been in the main game already. It also felt too close to the release of the main game. With more time removed; Vol.2 feels like a way better release that provides some different challeng...

Welcome Home: A REview of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard 0

That logo treatment is incredible. It’s been a little more than 20 years since the release of the original Resident Evil changed the landscape of video games forever. It’s a game series I literally grew up with, as it saw its original American release mere months before I was born. My initial encounters with the game were through watching my older brother and cousins play it for countless hours, all before I even had any idea how to handle a controller in order to experience it myself...

    Cajun style. 0

In an alternate universe, Capcom released another turgid re-tread of Resident Evil 4 that somehow managed to out-stupid Chris Redfield punching boulders and we all laughed in that sad kind of way. Capcom is its own worst enemy when it comes to milking its cash-cows because the cow in question has been horizontal since 2009 and was starting smell. Resident Evil 6 may be one of the most expensive videogame train wrecks to feature an actual train wreck and probably should have put a bullet in the s...

Welcome to the new standard in horror gaming 0

Getting Resident Evil back on track for the second time seemed like an almost impossible task. Resident Evil 6 took things in such a drastic direction which I despised that I wasn’t even sure I wanted a Resident Evil 7. However everything pre release sounded like they were on the right track. The demo was definitely a step in the right direction. All that was left was for the game to come out. And now that it has; they’ve done it again and made a truly special horror game.Perhaps the...

    Heck of a thing, ain't it? 0

A good game is one thing, but there's just something special to a thing you had little hope for exceeding far past your wildest dreams. As far as the expectations-to-final-product ratio goes, this one is a wild success. Even removed from the shock of seeing a long-running franchise like this come back into former glory, Resident Evil 7 (man, that is a great logo) is just such a well put together game it's almost astounding. It's not perfect, and the first half is noticeably stronger than the sec...

A Return to Survival Horror 0

I love Resident Evil. I've cited the original (Gamecube Remake that is) as my favorite game of all time now. I love characters, the goofy lore, the tank controls, everything about it. Hell I even love the movie franchise that everyone else hates. That being said, I was extremely concerned about Resident Evil 7. Now I'm in the camp of people (there's very few of us) that didn't hate Resident Evil 6. I think I even gave it a five star review on here at the time of it's release. I still stand by...

    Return to Horror 0

I was a little skeptical when they first showed footage for this game and then after playing the demo thinking that they were just trying to capitalize on the overblown craze that was P.T. What we got instead was a very well designed return to the horror roots of he Resident Evil franchise. To me it wasn't overly scary, the tension however was very high and it made the game for me. Upfront it almost comes off a shooter but then you quickly realize it certainly doesn't play like one. With light...

A step in the right direction 0

I have been a fan of Resident Evil since the first release, but unfortunately I have waned off the series since Resident Evil 5 came out, just because every release felt more and more action oriented and less about the horror. They took the action right back out with this release, and turned the horror up to the maximum. From the start this game feels beautiful to play, from the graphics being INSANE for a console game (I played the PS4 Pro version), to the sheer dread of going down every hallwa...

    Sloppy Family Affairs 0

Resident Evil 7: biohazard is a sloppy experience, and I don't mean mechanically. Having to decide between using a first aid, unloading your final clip of precious handgun ammo, or running away as a molded foe is inches within your grasp almost always ends up a chaotic struggle that leads to you barely surviving. You feel gross, because there is no regenerating health, or an infinite supply of ammo now lying at your feet. As an unapologetic fan of the first four, but mainly first three Capcom su...

Resi goes back to its roots 0

At face value it’s rather easy to dismiss Resident Evil 7 as a cash in on the popularity of games like Amnesia and PT. However, if you go beneath the surface it becomes clear the biggest inspiration for RE7 is the original game. The house and surrounding property were crafted to feel like the mansion in the first game yet they feel new and fresh. There’s even a set of three keys reminiscent of the set in the original. The farm is crawling with enemies and every encounter feels tense...

A return to form for this beloved Survival Horror series 0

Resident Evil 7 is easily the best game in the franchise released during the last decade, underneath it's Texas Chainsaw Massacre style exterior is a pure RE title that brings back a lot of the lore and mechanics that made the franchise so memorable.Outside of boss fights there is really no need to fight enemies and for the majority of enemy encounters it is really recommended to save your ammo and hightail it. Space is used to a level of pure genious, with compact locations having multiple pat...
