Artificial life-forms ("robots") specifically designed to mimic the appearance of human beings. Although this is a male-specific term, with female-looking machines actually being "gynoids", the term "android" is generally used universally in video games.
Games that have animals (except humans) as the main character. The character must be playable.
Exominds (or simply Exos as they are more commonly known) are self-aware humanoid machines built by humanity in the Golden Age. Unlike mass-produced robotic frames, Exos are human minds uploaded in artificial bodies; Each and every Exo used to be a human being.
A gynoid, or fembot, is a feminine humanoid robot.
The Mechari are a race of sentient, mechanical beings created by the Eldan to serve and protect the Dominion. They are one of the playable races in Wildstar.
Some games feature protagonists that are not humanoid in nature. These are creatures that do not have human characteristics (i.e. stand on 2 legs, have 2 arms, a body and a head).
Skeletons that are directly controllable by the player; a concept that spans across multiple genres.
The R-1 Series of Robots were created by UltraNet as war machines and in the games serve as the male protagonist counterpart to Gretel, With each game entry featuring a new model in the series.
If a person is made of metal and has circuitry instead of a circulatory system, then their game belongs on this list.
Sometimes there are robotic characters that are programmed to think they are humans or have forgotten they are robots. Other times robots are meant to blend in with humans while knowing that they are robots. Either way they are eventually revealed to be robots as a dramatic plot twist.
