    A Grade 9 Fixer of a one-man Office, Roland stumbled into the Library built on the ruins of Lobotomy Corporation after the White Nights and Dark Days incident. Angela, the Director of the Library, questioned how he entered without an invitation and dismembered him at first. However, Angela soon healed his body and made him the Patron Librarian on the Floor of General Works, defeating enemies summoned by her Invitations to turn them into books, furthering her goal of eventually reaching the Perfect Book. Through him, Angela soon learns more about The City and how its various factions interact with each other, but wonders why Roland shows little fear considering his situation. Roland jokingly replies that this job is better than scraping by as a bottom-ranked Fixer, and that Angela ripped his limbs off when he first entered, so he couldn't leave if he wanted to.

    Roland's character is partially inspired by the French epic, La Chanson de Roland (The Song of Roland).
