I just discovered that Rust has opened their workshop and added the ability to purchase cosmetic items. The business model and prices seem to be extremely similar to CSGO and Dota 2. I know that both of those games receive a bit of criticism about their players obsession for crates, keys, and hats but I'm honestly extremely excited about this feature being added to Rust. I even spent most of last week creating a skin which you can check out by clicking here. As someone who dabbles in graphic design and modeling, I think it's awesome that my creation could end up in a game I enjoy playing.
Currently the workshop only supports custom textures and normal maps but soon they're going to allow custom meshes as well. I've read that the community creations will always be cosmetic replacements for existing in-game items. I would imagine that some people would like for every item, cosmetic or not, to be usable without paying more than the game's initial cost. I suppose I can understand both sides of the argument.
What do you think? Would you be upset if this became the new normal?
