Hey folks I was just looking at the Australian Steam store page for Saints Row: The Third and noticed that it appears to have an R18+ classification, which is weird because as far as I know we still don't have an R18+ rating for games in this country. I also had a look at the OFLC site for the game's rating and it said MA15+.

Does anyone know what is going on with this? I'd look at the steam forums but they appear to be down.

The apocalypse has come! Australia (maybe) has an age rating above 15!

I thought I remembered reading some news a few months back about Australia finally accepting an R-18 rating. Or, was it just talks about creating it? A Google search doesn't turn up anything conclusive. Maybe our Australian brethren can enlighten us.

@Napalm: Apparently there was an "in principle" agreement to an R18+ rating for games and some draft guidelines have been submitted but we still don't have that elusive rating... Just have to keep pirating I guess ;)

As for the Steam R18+ thing - it has popped up in a few games on there before, namely Quake 4 when it was first added to Steam. I'd wager that it's just a bug or something in the way they assign ratings/ratings images to games in their system. I wouldn't worry about it.

@Krushr: Yeah my research seems to have shown it is an error. However it's odd that the R18+ symbol is the one used in Australia when there is no R18+ rating for games.

No surprise here. The game is very violent, and the aussies are known to be strict in the classification of games. 

We have an in principle agreement, I assume retailers have an expected date it will be introduced, and so are rating as such.

It will be MA15+.
