I feel like I remember Ryan saying on a podcast that he got this in the beginning of the game. I'm about 20% in and haven't seen it yet ... Did I miss something?

Vetol?
They have exaggerated incredibly the speed at which you unlock stuff.
However, everything else about this game is almost undersold.
I picked it up during a mission, raced to my heliport and stashed it.
Had it way earlier then I should have, but I can't remember what mission that was though.
But the problem with that is that when you finally do unlock all the cool shit near the end of the game, you don't really have any use for it since you already did most of the side stuff. If you play through the story missions exclusively without screwing around or pursuing side activities, you could unlock the VTOL sooner rather than later. But then you'd be missing out on screwing around and pursuing the side activities.
Saint's Row 3 is just bad pacing all around. Don't get me wrong, I had fun getting the platinum, but I can't believe people are talking about it as highly as they are.

Oh, hell no. I spent so much time just fucking around in that game that when I did reach Level 50 two or three missions before the end of the game, I still had plenty of side stuff to do. For my money, the pacing in the game was perfect.
Word. I was just about to say the same thing. I reached level 50 exactly three missions before the end of the game and I had barely scratched the surface yet. There's SO MUCH SHIT TO DO IN THAT GAME.@Three0neFive said:

Also, the easy way to get a VTOL is wait until STAG comes in and use the RC Controller thing to take control of one and then land it right next to you, then jack it. STAG comes in at the half-way point in the game, if I remember correctly, so I had plenty of time to use it and still screw around and progress the story.
Get a heli, go to their aircraft carrier, automatically get wanted five stars, RC the VTOL, lower it down to you and fly that thing to your HQ. Because it counts as a helicopter.

How the fuck do you steal a jet.
Military bases just have them lying around. Just jump in.
Yep, found one in a park, some mini STAG base.@Alo81 said:

If you've piloted a helicopter, you've flown a VTOL... although not quite the VTOL everyone is talking about...
