    Overview

Shanghai: The Four Elements is a mahjong solitaire game developed by Success and published by SUNSOFT for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on September 28, 2000.

The sequel to the 1997 game Shanghai: True Valor, The Four Elements includes four variations of the classic mahjong solitaire, each representing one of the four classical elements:

    • Classic Shanghai (Earth) - The traditional game of mahjong solitaire, where players are given a multi-layer tile formation and must attempt to remove all pairs from the board.
    • Candlelight (Fire) - New to the series. Classic Shanghai with a twist: as time goes by, candles around the playfield become dimmer and the playfield itself become harder to see. Matching Wind tiles make the candle in that direction go out, while matching certain tiles reignites them.
    • Water Float (Water) - New to the series. Classic Shanghai with a twist: tiles are floating in a pool of water, with only the top tiles available to be matched. Matching tiles can cause the tiles below them to float upward to the surface.
    • Windstorm (Air) - New to the series. Classic Shanghai with a twist: matching wind or some other tiles causes some change in the way tiles can be matched.

Similar to Shanghai: True Valor, the game board is rendered in full 3D and allows players to pivot the camera around.
