    Shannon Gilligan is the first person to be inducted into the Mystery Writers of America for her work on interactive fiction in video games.

    A graduate of Williams College in 1981, Gilligan spent much of her writing career penning Choose Your Own Adventure novels. Her novels have been translated into over 6 languages and have sold over 2 million copies.

    In 1994 she, designed the Virtual Murder series of games, developing them wiith Creative Multimedia, the games would go on to win three New Media Invision Awards of Excellence. In 1996 Activision published The Elk Moon Murders, her final contribution to interactive fiction.
