Giant Bombcast 10-26-2010

Shirtless masseurs, pancakes prepared by drunk firefighters, the Fallout fixing powers of the command console, the seasonal potential of Costume Quest, the end of the line for rhythm games, plus the very worst kind of cake, all in this week's Bombcast!

The Giant Bombcast is the world's most beloved video game podcast, and now it's available in video form.

Yes, yes and yes!  Now I have to try and make it until tomorrow morning before listening, otherwise I will be up for at least another 2 hours since once I start listening to your podcast where I have nothing that will make me stop (schedule, life, ect), I will just keep listening.

You need to contact Daniel M. at Whiskey (choose T-Shirt Shipping). A certain amount of memberships logged on Day One glitched and didn't create a shirt order.

Thank you, Vinny, for bringing up the shitty karma system in New Vegas. By far the worst part of that game so far.

Vinny talking about using the console makes me not feel as bad about not having a pc that can handle this, so I'm playing it on 360. I would be way too tempted to abuse it. I feel like I'm getting a purer experience. Because I know myself, and I'd use it too much.

I can't believe Jeff and Vinny were complaining about one of the fundamentals that make RPG's what they are. If you can't open a lock or pass a speech check in Fallout  it's because YOU didn't level up in that area, you spent your point elsewhere - that was YOUR choice - how can you complain about that! It's up to you how you build a character. It's definetly NOT sectioning off parts of the game when you yourself had the choice to access these parts and chose not to.

Where does it stop? Why not just turn on god mode and create a maxed out character with 100 in everything and kill everything in 1 shot - that to me is the same as liberally using the console commands. Where is the fun in that? Half the fun for me in RPG's is to spec your character so naturally they are good in some area but weak in others - it's about balance.

Speaking of RB3 leaderboards, I was number 3 in vocal overdrives on PS3 last night. Probably back into the 30% area by now. They also have a leader board for how many songs you've used overdrive four times in the song on.

I 100% agree, it make no sense at all. If you don't want to play an RPG then why buy it. By all means play games the way you enjoy but when that involves cheating and removing a massive chunk of the game then that's where I draw the line. Fallout:NV even makes choices easier than in Fallout 3 because even if you don't have the skill it do something then there's usually an option to use another method like in the medical quest where you can just use medical equipment to complete it with very little medical skill. Or just decline the quest and go back later when you've raise the skill you need. If the complexity of actually playing an RPG is to much for you then maybe just stick with MW2 and it's progression system.

Next thing you know they'll complain about being misled by the title because the entire game didn't take place in New Vegas (invisible walls reference, Shane is a complete moron.) :D

@sharkeh: I do agree with you guys. I do love me some good RPG action. Fallout though, is a whole different story. I played Fallout New Vegas on the pc and used no cheats, the first play through that is. But MAN, there truly is NOTHING going on in that world. I was bored out of my mind when I was walking around that world. At the second play through I was no clipping my way through the world, and teleporting to marker from time to time. Found I had way more fun doing that. Bethesda's Fallout games are fun because of the stories and people you meet. The problems with Fallout 3 and New Vegas is the fact that the world is close to empty! Another problem is the loading between inside and outside, those load screens takes me out of the game completely every time, and its just annoying. The TES games have always had this, but usually when TES games come out, they rock some of the best graphics and biggest worlds you have ever seen, so its accepted. Fallout New Vegas looks four years out of its prime, so those loads are much more pronounced. Any how, I feel like I'm starting to ramble. Generally agree, but not when it comes to the game. Besides, they bought the game. Let them play it the way they want, I cheat in RTS games :P

I haven't run into any weird glitches or bugs in New Vegas. It randomly locked up on me twice but other then that it's been runing fine on 360 so far.

I don't think they were complaining, necessarily. It was an aspect of the game that didn't appeal to them, and they were thankful that there was a way around it. Vinny even says that he admits he's cheating, and he's just trying to make the game more enjoyable for himself. Nothing wrong with that, people can cheat if they want, it's their own choice. If it counts for anything, you don't get Steam achievements if you use the console.

Disguising in Faction armour in New Vegas is actually very useful in several places, such as in the Ultra-Luxe and dealing with the Powder Gangers. I agree about the Karma problem though. I gain evil Karma because I'm stealing from Caesar's Legion? Not cool. Reputation is more important.

Yup. This was also apparent in the Persona 4 ER.

I really don't understand their dislike for the parts of RPG's that makes them RPG's(and before some retarded buttmonkey makes the obvious remark: No, its not grinding)
