All Systems Goku 34

Watching Kai for the first time with this podcast, and im glad Kai exists and all, but i prefer OG DBZ with its warts and all.

Garlic Jr. Saga not being in Kai felt weird, it wasn't perfect by any means, but it had no Goku/Vegeta so Piccolo being top dog for a short bit was cool, and I liked the Falconer music a bit more in general.

If your a fan of Vegeta, and want some cool ass Vegeta moments Dragon Ball Super is a much watch.

Please do OG Dragon Ball next!

It's finally over. It's too bad they couldn't do this one a better anime series but DragonballZ is always the one North America wants for whatever reason. I guess because it's so terrible?

What am I going to do without this wrestling podcast? haha

You guys definitely need to watch that one thing. But definitely for sure do not ever even think about watching that other thing. It is trash.

I just wanna say that Dan's "Impretza" joke had me in stitches.

GT was so bad that they completely wrote it off for another series. I remember watching through the whole thing and being very bored with it too. Super has a few bad moments, but it also has some of the best stuff to be brought into dragonball. Beerus and Whis, Universe 6, and the Tournament of Power are pretty great stuff.

You guys really should move on to super. I know you'll like it. It's better than the buu saga.

You guys would really appreciate OG Dragonball for the world building and weird slice of life stuff. If you guys want to see the story continue Super is the way to go, but you should go in knowing Super takes place between the death of Kid Buu and the tournament at the end Z.

as much as I want them to watch super, if they decide to go with GT, I will totally join them on that journey. No matter how bad it is supposed to be lol

Dragonball GT is good because it has some decent sounding concepts but is actually just filled with some of the most disappointing build up and jobbing I've ever seen and all of the ideas that's aren't decent concepts are absolutely fucking terrible.

Dragonball Super is good, but the first two arc are based on the movies but they did a weird reverse Kai on them and added in a bunch of filler to extend them out. The animation is also pretty weak at the beginning of the series. The show definitely picks up though and ends uo living up the the original.

Dragonball is good, but really different from Z. The biggest benefit from watching it would be that a surprising amount of Super calls back to Dragonball (in addition to the fact that it's pretty good).

I'd suggest that you not try to watch currently airing/not complete anime like Hero Academia, you guys would probably get really frustrated because there's no way of knowing when or if those series will ever end.

Man this was great, though if they want to see the continuation of fat buus story dragon ball super does it, would totally listen to a super rewatch

id listen to a gt rewatch podcast but I think a super rewatch would be way more entertaining

@anominal: I appreciate you trying to defend the comment Jeff made. You're right, Superheroes aren't Jeff's thing. This is something the GBcast has shown again and again. I don't fault that. I took ill with the comment because both Jeff and Dan just got finished watching something they used to make fun of and hate on, something they now very much like, and as soon as something else came up which Jeff has only experienced through soundbites (like DBZ) or video games (like DBZ) Jeff did the same thing he used to do to DBZ. I don't know. I kind of hoped the gut reaction of a harsh comment might be quelled after experiencing something he went out of his way to avoid and then found out he liked.

It's a bummer. I doubt any person on here listened to this podcast with a hate for DBZ. This podcast was kind of a rediscovery for me and a couple friends on how ridiculous and wonderful that show was. For me, it was kind of awesome to listen to two people who really didn't know much about DBZ (regardless of the enormous amount of pop culture exposure) find joy in it. A lot of joy and fun. I actually stopped listening to most of the Giant Bomb podcasts because of how negative they could be about a lot of stuff. This show was not that.

Sadly, as soon as something new popped up (in the genre they jokingly claim to be experts in), it's equated to garbage... or dogshit... or just what DBZ used to be to Jeff, before he watched it.

I continue to leave my vote for yu yu hakusho, it has one of the most likable cast in all of anime and the dub is considered one of the best in the buisness.

Either way they should watch a few episodes of different series and see if its worth to go all in for a podcast.

@caliburfury: I know they aren't taking suggestions, but I agree. Yu Yu Hakusho would be a great transition after DBZ.

If they continue I hope they pick anything else than more Dragonball. There are so many better anime to try rather than slog through the garbage that's GP or Super. And for their sanity I hope it's a much shorter anime, no need for a giant 200+ episodes of something.

GT seems to be more hated by US fans while everywhere else it's treated as a big pile of Meh.

I said this before and i will say it again, if they do watch GT then they should probobaly watch it only subbed. That series has a embarrassingly bad English dub that makes no sense and is drastically different from the Original. Even the first episode has some moronic nonsense like Goku's reaction being when he gets turned into a kid, is to ask if he has to go to school again. You know because Goku totally went to school in Dragon Ball. ._. Oh and the American replacement score might be even worse than the US Bruce Faulconer score for DBZ.

GT is not without it's merits but the dub version is a unwatchable steaming pile of garbage.

Please, please if Dan finishes Evangelion have him on a podcast and let him talk about it.

I have been meaning to watch OG Dragon Ball and I hope they do that. I think its tone is probably more in line with some of the stuff they liked from Z, when it got a little weird.

people keep telling you that GT is bad and it really is not that bad. it may not be your cup of tea but if you watch a few episodes and hate it you can just drop it

Goku is the worst dad ever. Likes to fight and abandon his family whenever possible.

I do however want to see more of the Android 18/Krillin dynamic. Her berating him gives me life.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but Dan really should combine his love of anime with his newfound love of reading fiction and read all of the Berserk manga. As a fan of cool guys doing cool guy stuff, a story about a man who kills literally a hundred dudes in a single battle with a giant sword seems right up his alley. Join us strugglers, Dan!

I'm shocked there's so much hate for Super. When I watch DBZ, I want crazy fights and obscene power being used. Super does that, adds interesting characters and great fight scenes. Yes, it does start to push some of the older characters into the background, but that has to happen. Even then, the final tournament arc gives some old characters their own time to shine.

Immensely grateful for this fun trip down memory lane. It was a ton of fun to listen to Jeff and Dan experience DBZ for the first time. Even if this series never picks back up, it was heartening to hear them discuss which anime they may watch next. This series opened up a whole new world of stuff that they might have glossed over if not for a really good DBZ game. That's really all I could ask for from this whole thing. Thanks for the great series, guys!

The most damning thing I can say about GT is that it's boring.

It's not good or bad, it's just there.

I love Eva and with it coming to Netflix soon would not be a bad idea but I know Dan for sure would despise Shinji as much as I do if not more and I can't wait. The comments alone will just abrupt into chaos and we will all realize anime was a mistake.

They completely forgot about the time they said that Videl is the smartest character on the show, a statement which is pretty much true throughout the whole thing.

I do hope they check out GT, whether it be a full watch or just reading up on it. It's definitely got it's issues but there is enough weird/interesting things in there that make it worth while in my opinion.

Otherwise, would be way into hearing Jeff's thoughts on old school Gundam(Ideally Zeta but you really need to have a working knowledge of the original MSG to get the full impact of that series), and i'm sure both Dan and Jeff would be into G Gundam.

Bring Austin Walker on and do All Systems Gundam.

Pretty sure Jeff's correct in that Goten's shirt says "Son" because it's his full name, though in most English dubs the surname is dropped and they're just known by one name.

Kai uses Son Goku at least once, but they're weirdly adverse to using his full name. I even saw an interview with Sabat where he went out of his way to emphasis that though they were acknowledging it now they weren't going to throw out the full name that often.

Interestingly, DBZ also premiered the week after original Dragon ball, and original Dragon Ball premiered the week after Dr. Slump (Toriyama's big hit before DB)

Great podcast that taught me I should have been watching Dragon Ball years ago. If they plan to continue I feel like original Dragon Ball is the right move, but I can also see needing a palette cleanser after how long DBZ is. My vote is for Gurren Lagan, let's go all in on over the top anime insanity while also learning to be better people through teamwork and believing in ourselves and our friends.

If Jeff is gonna watch Gundam, I think he should watch G Gundam. Original Gundam isn't worth it unless you have a really high tolerance for awful pacing. G Gundam has windmill gundams. It's great
