I've fallen deep into a V-tuber hole the past week or so. I can see it not being for anyone, but I do find Korone and some others to be highly entertaining

The one thing I'm a little "weird" with all these games coming also to PS4 is the PS5 Dual Sense controller. I was already pretty side eye on it thinking this is a gimmick like Six Axis and it was obviously not going to be used heavily by 3rd parties that need to sell on PC and Xbox also. Doesn't seem like it's going to be much for Sony 1st party also, I'd figure Horizon Zero Dawn 2 would have had some integration for it.

Just listened to @jeff outline his Dark Vtuber Future, and that actually happened with Kizuna Ai, who was the first vtuber to break into the mainstream in a big way. The company behind her completely misread their market, and tried to replace the original voice actress with several additional actors, and was met with major rejection from their fanbase.

The way I think about it, vtbuers are basically like wrestlers. They are real human beings performing a corporate owned character, but are also so intrinsically tied with the character that you can't disassociate it from the performer. Just like you can't have someone other than Mark Calaway be the Undertaker, you can't have another performer be Fubuki

Pretty much, I can't imagine them doing anything but retiring the character if the VA bails for one reason or another. I don't think anyone cares about the avatars themselves, it's all about what the performer has been bringing to the table. Even a soundalike would probably get sussed out very quickly if a swap was done in secret.

Someone who's good at video editing please make a video of Optimus Prime talking but just use Jeff's voice when his Mic starting to go out. I'd do it but my skills are more tied to drawing that video editing.

Yeah, since that Kizuna Ai situation I don't think any agency is willing to pull another fast one by switching the actor behind the character - Kizuna Ai never recovered from all that fall out.

That being said though, the actors will sometimes "reincarnate" because their character might be bound to an agency or group, but they as the actors might want to move on for one reason or another. Other times they reincarnate because they're joining a group or agency and often want to start fresh. Korone and Okyayu for example had their own characters that were semi well known before retiring them to join Hololive.

Well its a good start that the first one they talk about is korone and not the eldritch horror that is Haachama chama~

I'd note however that the Korone & Okayu thing is a fan rumour, and while it's plausible, it hasn't and likely never will be confirmed by the performers themselves. You have very rare situations like Suisei bringing her character along with her when she joined Hololive, but as a whole, the industry is just too young to have seen much movement of performers outside of the indie vtuber -> Hololive/Nijisanji pipeline.

Should the industry survive long enough to mature, my suspicion is that it's going to follow a similar track with pro wrestling where when a performer moves from one big organisation to another, even if the character is owned by the previous company, it'll be an open secret (or maybe even officially recognised) that the new vtuber was formerly X from company Y

@drchibi: I was there for that. At least I was checking in from time to time and saw the end. I don't know how a human maintains a character for 12 straight hours through the night playing the same short section of game for that long. Had to give it up for the work ethic.

Very very much did this make me laugh too because that is stupid as hell and I love this website.

Also, I am so not interested in the consoles. At all, man- Honestly for me it's about the games, and how good they are. Where I can play them only becomes a concern when I CANNOT play the ones I absolutely know I will love. I understand the zeitgeist of gamer culture hype, but;

REALISTIC TALK- between 2017, and now, I have only played three REALLY exceptional games that speak to me on depths that felt innovative or spectacular in some aspect that made it a reinvention of video game genres, bars set for reasons to engage with games that make you think and participate in equal parts in a new way, look spectacular, and are constructed so well they respectively have either invented or re-invented or combined genres- none of them have anything to do with anything having to do with consoles or what the developers by history's record went based on exclusivity and all came out mid generation. Three games total that stood out as examples of how to make more out of less, and just hammer it together so GD well, the compulsion to play it is impossible to resist. I am not great at articulating this, but, I guess I don't see the point in pre-ordering, and also, that I think the game market is SO saturated, that when in three years time,

Absolver, across all consoles is to this day my favorite hybrid video game that masquerades as Dark Souls, but it isn't, it's the best arena-card-battler-guitar-hero-street fighter fighting game, and I care more about Sloclap and their next project than Horizon and God of war. I've dumped over 6000 hours in Absolver and am somewhere in the upper tier of players, own it on both PS4 and PC, and alternate on the situation- BECAUSE- this game's competitive skill cieling is insane, and no meta will ever stay valid by need to build in a tony-hawk/godhand combat deck system, all existing in 1v1 fighting game traditional form, AND in a soulsian open World lobby that, as a common space is a gigantic training stage, more street fighter than street fighter. The team that made it is like, 20-40 people, and it's on all three platforms, and that's awesome, and what I care about, not what console has the bigger D.

Then, Monster Hunter is amazing, everyone knows about that one. I would hope I could assume people know Control is as good as it is as well, but my point is really that these games are maybe not the biggest, but for my tastes per genre and video game, some of the best of all time, and it has literally nothing to do with either Sony or Microsoft. This may change, but it hasn't yet- so until it does, this whole console clamor to me is confusing; it's interesting, and for following the big scheme, it's a fun hobby just to be in the know, but when people emotionally invest in either one of these companies, aka, buy either console before they happen, aka, bring the best of games that are going to hook you for literally thousands of hours on a unique quality loop like the aformentioned titles, having an existential saga of which console to go digital-or-disk-drive at pre-order sellout is game hype culture on both the corporate side, and the player side, feel like 'more' instead of 'good' is acceptable and regressive. I want good video games. That's all I care about, so sell me good video games and have them actually be good, and then I will buy oddly shaped controllers with closed ecosystems.
