Much like any food really, you can't just will someone into liking IPAs just because you really enjoy them - I know this from experience.

My brother and his friend drank IPAs back when I was primarily into screwdrivers and drinks and didn't even enjoy regular beer. Once in a while I would take a sip of their beers and always found them just completely unpalatable. Couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to drink something so bitter. Then one day it just clicked and they are now my favorite beers, but no amount of them saying "try this one its really great" made them actually taste good.

Weirdly enough same process happened with me and whiskey where I could barely swallow a sip for the longest time and then something just flipped in my mouth and now it's my favorite type of alcohol and I don't even like diluting it with ice.

I can pretty vividly remember having apple juice be my go-to beverage when I was ~3-7 years old, but hated any soda. One day a switch flipped and I didn't like it anymore and switched to ginger ale, but still didn't like cola. A few years later pepsi was the go-to. I didn't become a coffee drinker until I was well into my 30s.

After doing some quick google research just now, it appears that our taste buds actually change in quantity/strength as we age (they decrease). In particular our taste for bitterness. Probably a significant evolutionary selection pressure there because toddlers would be at high risk of ingesting poisonous things, and more vulnerable due to low body mass. Might also be the reason why we become less fussy about certain vegetables as we age into adulthood. Likewise would explain our gradual shift to stronger alcoholic beverages which tend to be more bitter.

Leaves me thinking about Jeff's "mouth feel" experiment with the Switch cartridge and what that would taste like for a baby that's more than twice as sensitive to it.

@hughj: Very interesting! I do remember reading that our taste gets more dull as we age a while ago. There are some things I never liked and I still don’t but in terms of alcohol it does seem constantly evolving.

I prefer one of the original IPAs (Irish Produced Alcohol): Guinness.

Fun fact about brussels sprouts: They taste better now than when I was a kid. They have done science on them over the years to make them less bitter.

@humanity: That's interesting! Do you remember what it was about whiskey that you didn't like? For me it's the burn, which basically precludes me from drinking any strong mixed drink or straight liquor. I want it to change because I like the actual taste a lot!

@neau: For the longest time it was quite literally everything but the burn was a big part of it. First time I tried whiskey it tasted like paint thinner to me. There was this distinct feeling of alcohol nearly evaporating off my tongue or something. I first tried whiskey I think on my 20th birthday, it was Jack Daniels which was a bad first choice. I think I started enjoying whiskey when I got to my 30's.

Quick clarification for those terms in normal software engineering.

Long Term Support: A locked feature set, and no big changes with a guarantee that bug fixes will come for the 'term' defined.

End of Life: Something that will no longer receive bug fixes or security patches.

So, you would generally want to push big production software on an LTS suite of software since you'll get fixes, but no features that could break things you've written.

This is not the first time confusion over an Xbox game selling well on Steam when Game Pass exists has been expressed on this site. Not everyone wants to pay a subscription fee to play a game! Sometimes you just want to buy a single game that you know you want, and the be able to play it in perpetuity without having to stay subbed to something in order to have access to it. And I personally don't play enough new games to make it worthwhile anyways. EDIT: Also, that Forza news story later in the podcast illustrates another reason why people not want to go with Game Pass! Losing access to a game like that isn't great. Sure, most of the time you probably won't care anymore, but the situation still is undesirable.

I know I've commented this before because it's been talked about on the Bombcast before, but I've seen a couple of CoD MW3 Jeeps over on the east coast. One while on vacation, and one I saw a few times in my grocery store's parking lot.

I know this is probably falling on deaf ears, but if Jean-Luc is going to keep producing the podcast on and off, he really should fix his mechanical keyboard sounds coming into the audio. It is so, so annoying. How the fuck do you get a job as a producer without realizing this? Incredibly amateur.

Considering that drives sometimes don't perform at the speeds that they advertise, it's weird that Jeff was getting hung up on that disclaimer about Sony not being able to guarantee that 100% of drives claiming to meet the minimum specs will work well on a PS5.

I don't understand why Jeff thinks Infinite is the culmination of Halo feeling more like CoD. Yeah, the CoD control scheme is default, but that's about it. This is the least CoD-feeling Halo 343 has ever made. They got rid of most of the advanced movement mechanics and even nerfed sprint. I think that's why Halo fans are loving it so much.

pretty much every week for the last month I have gotten an email about PS5's in stock at my local gamestop. I already managed to pick up both the ps5 and the series x so I haven't been running out to see how many have been available.

I run a raspi for classic games and if you look enough through the forums and the community you find out the people who complain about not being able to run a PS2 game on it aren't willing to actually get into the hobby. I have a friend with a mister and I can't tell the difference between my retropi and his mister. I will say though, Redream the Dreamcast emulator will run very well on a pi and that's about the only system from that era that will run on it. Even N64 games chug a bit

Edit: TLDR I think anything worth playing on the Mister is also worth playing on a retropi and the average person wouldn't know the difference and is significantly cheaper.
