Bull shit, it SHOULD be BC. With the high end specs that the PS4 has it COULD totally have emulation BC. But Sony does NOT want to pay nvidia royalties for this to happen and that is bull shit, I'm sorry. I have over 70 PS3 disc games and I still want to play some of these games.

The guys from 8-4 Play are friends of Giant Bomb. 8-4 primarily focuses on Japanese games which the crew of Giant Bomb have little care for so hence the partnership of GB filling that void and 8-4 reaching a larger audience.

Hardware emulation is very performance intensive. There's a great ArsTechnica article on NES emulation, where some games still put a hurt on PCs.

Originally, the 8-4 podcast was hosted over at 1UP (Mark MacDonald and John Ricciardi are former EGM / 1UP writers). Due to circumstances (inside baseball), they had to look for a new home. In game journalism, everyone knows everyone, yada yada, presto, they're on Giant Bomb.

The originally PSO had 4 shops: Armor, Weapons, Items, Upgrades. Very simple and straightforward. Phantasy Star Universe is where they went nuts with it.

If this is the first, last, and only time Umihara Kawase plays prominently on a podcast on this site, then I can die a happy person. As a really pacifistic successor to Bionic Commando as a fellow grappling hook-driven platformer, I'm happy to call the original SNES game one of my personal favorites, even if I'll probably never be competent enough to reach the true ending. I continue to be astounded none of the games have made it overseas, since the physics engine in even the first game lets you do some really crazy level traversal stuff that I bet some people would happily gobble up here. Since I'm importing a Japanese 3DS for Shin Megami Tensei IV, I'll definitely be grabbing this upcoming one for it as well. If it really is the last one, I'd quite like to see how it turns out for myself.

Here's a non-tool-assisted speed run of the first game. No real exploits; just sheer mastery of the physics engine and knowledge of how the level warp system works with the doors.

Anyone care to share a link to the Dark Souls stream they talked about?

Video for that clip at the end. Fucking stellar. I especially love that even though this guy is obviously a native English speaker, he's speaking in SNES-era JRPG broken English.
