How can you be interested in any form of motor sport and not know who Carlos Sainz was?!? I'm only slightly younger than Danny and growing up, it was impossible to not know 3 main names: Senna, Prost and Sainz. And I hadn't seen any F1 race or WRC rally by then.

if i had to name you 3 participants of motorsport from when i was younger they would be senna, prost and mansell

Ha! I was actually thinking about adding Mansell to those 3, but Senna vs. Prost antagonism actually resulted in frequent fisticuffs between 8yo boys. Mansell was just a distraction, but I guess it looked differently in the Commonwealth.

G'DAY ALT+F1!

Edit: I'm getting flashbacks to Dark Souls II listening to this, I listened to the early months of last year while playing it.

Sainsbury's is the everyman supermarket, much on the same tier as Tesco. They do also have larger stores, and the bigger ones will sell non-food (from CDs and Games through to kitchenware). Not heard it referred to as Sainso's before, unless that's an intentional amalgamation of it and Tesco.

You guys don't know how spot on you were with the Toro Rosso stuff. Toro Rosso are Italian because they used to be Minardi, which was owned by Paul Stoddart - an Australian. And Mark Webber drove for them in 2002.

Still just so very happy that this made a return!

Also the pre season drama alone promises for another very interesting season and the podcast picture is amazing.

@burgavo: lol yeah. I'll always have a soft spot for Minardi. I was there when Webber got that 5th place. The crowd went bananas that day :p But yeah, Alonso got his start there. As well as Fisichella, Trulli and a few others.

@cagliostro88: Its the same in many languages. After all cars are horses made of steel and they belong in a stable.

I didn't have the premium podcast feed before a few months ago, so I didn't listen to any of the previous Alt+F1. I listened to the primer from last week and then this episode, now I'm kind of interested in watching the races. I had this crazy notion in my head that there was like 20 teams and 50+ cars per race like NASCAR. But listening to this and reading a little bit about the 2015 season on Wikipedia, I think it's totally manageable.

Also, I don't know if I agree with Danny's "probably easier on the East Coast" when 10pm West Coast is 1am on the East Coast.

@rethla: Hearing a group referred to as a "Stable" just reminds me of pro wrestling. But that's for another premium podcast.

That's largely because race one is in Australia. I think for the US the majority of the races end up being very early in the morning.

@y2ken: I came on to say something about the weird Sainsburys stuff, Sainsburys is a standard supermarket, probably one rung up from Tescos on the price ladder, and it sells exactly the same stuff.

Clearly they aren't in Ireland and Danny's only exposure to them was in London where locals/metros are the most common stores.

I imagine the Sainso's thing is Irish too, I've had irish friends who've done the same thing in the past with other long names (chop them in half and add an O)

It's awesome to see Manor Marussia back. The way I hear it is that they will run a modified 2014 car, with the same awful Ferrari 2014 engines, but mid-season will roll out a 2015 chassis, and get the Ferrari 2015 power unit. Can't wait.

@rethla: I know, i just wanted to explain the translation and point out that if you see the word scuderia before the name of company (Ferrari, Ducati, etc) it means that it's specifically about the racing team and not the maker in general, which usually has a commercial branch too :)

I think the sauber situation is fantastic. van der garde and sutil both got contracts to race this season and sauber thought they'd somehow just forget about that? lol. what a ridiculous team. danny is definitely not representing that situation fairly by "blaming" van der garde. sauber made all that happen on their own. sutil is supposed to be taking them to court as well, but isn't interested in the seat anymore.
