I like how Drew couldn't remember that "The Martian" is like "Castaway" and something.

It's "Apollo 13." He mentions it thirty seconds before.

The human mind is weird. Probably forgot it because he just mentioned it.

I finished that book today by the way! Really like it!

Watching this and the Indy 500 in the same day was a perfect illustration of American-style sports as entertainment and European-style sports as orderly competition.

Apparently, you don't even have to be a part of the regular Indy circuit to enter the 500. They dump a bunch of hack drivers into machines they only drive once a year and encourage them to drive around an oval at 200+ mph. The results were predictably hilarious.

Got a little worried it was going to be a snoozefest around the middle of the race, but then, such excitement. Many drama.

Woe unto Lotus though, poor bastards.

Well I just spent 10 minutes filling out the survey. It was interesting and more in depth than I expected. If you do fill it out who did you put for top 3 drivers of all time? I went with Senna, Schumacher and Fangio (in that order) but was hard to choose. Also YES to sprinklers.

Yeaaaah Grid Boys! I can only imagine that Bernie was silently smoldering throughout the whole race thinking about that.

Wow that thumbnail is spooking me out. If you put Arnie's fake head back together with one spindle spinning over the mouth then I think a gif would be really worrying.

Right after the race it seemed like Lewis had intentions on taking the bottle of champagne and walking away. Someone ran out to him, had a brief conversation, and Lewis walked back to the podium. Was this is PR handler? I could see him being like: Lewis, that was terrible man. But I need you to go back up to that podium and give a post race interview. I know it sucks, but tell them we win and loose as a team etc.

Danny don't get your hopes too high up on the FIFA situation. As acknowledge by the FBI, corruption was systematic and widespread for at least two decades. It's endemic by now. They just postponed the elections, they will present some new faces and all will remain the same, there is no incentive to change it.

But at least we get some satisfaction by watching some rich old corrupted fucks go to trial, so my thanks to the USA for that :)

Not really sure where Danny & Drew's confusion over the pit call is coming from. I'm sure the Merc radio board was lit the fuck up at that moment, and getting word from some junior data analyst guy up to the pit boss would probably take some time, in which Hamilton was already coming down the lane. Unless they wanted to just tell him to drive through, and at that point why not take the 4 seconds to change the tires anyway?

I know it sucks, but tell them we win and loose as a team etc.

It was probably Paddy Lowe, according to Darren Heath had Lewis parked during the victory lap and was planing to go home.

In the garage, and on the pit wall, the questions circulate: “Where’s Lewis?” “Is he going to show for the podium ceremony?” At the furthest end of the circuit, parked at Portiers, the third-placed Mercedes F1W 06 is stationary.

Crackling across the airwaves, Lewis is on the radio:

“I’m stopping at Portiers and going home.” Understandably less than keen to show up for Rosberg’s coronation, Hamilton has had enough.

In a calm but forceful reply, Mercedes Executive Director and long-time colleague of Lewis’s Paddy Lowe replies:

“No you’re not. You must come to the podium.”

This isn't on the official transcript but Darren is a pretty reputable source.

Edit: well now is it changed and a part of the text I quoted are no longer there.

That's the exact percentage I went "NOPE" too. They should have had an option for "I do not plan to attend any F1 races in the foreseeable future" and cut out every question related to that, except maybe one asking how they could entice me.

Dover I think is in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is the weird Republican state in a sea of blue that really obsesses about NASCAR. I know there are multiple Dover's but I think it is that one.

Dover International Speedway is in Delaware, however there IS also a NASCAR track in Loudon, NH.

The NASCAR race this week does have a name, but it's nothing exciting: The Fedex 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks. I think we've exhausted the silliest name of the season with Spongebob, but we haven't exhausted the silliest trophy yet...

I can't really be the only one who REALLY wanted to hear them talk about Grosjean's comments toward Verstappen after the crash.

I laughed pretty hard at that, given it really didn't seem to be Verstappen's fault and my understanding that Grosjean is known for causing his share of accidents earlier in his f1 career.

Anyway was a little gutted when they skipped right past that part was hoping for a quote at the very least.

1. Kimi was right in saying "that wasn't very nice."

2. It's great the FIFA assholes are finally getting what they deserve, but I highly doubt they'll take the WM away from Katar, even though I would like that too.

I wanted to say, that part about FIFA really pissed me off. I am from Russia, so the whole debacle looks completely different for us. Yeah, some international guys are probably corrupt, who knows. But then it got dealt with, not internationally, but unilaterally by USA, just because USA decided that they can. They weren't American, they didn't break any laws in America, yet USA tries to extradict them, because they can. That is about as fair as us, russians, at some point taking down Hague Tribunal just cause we don't like how it operated. Those organizations are international and should be dealt with internationally. I am sorry for this political debacle from me, it's just I think GB is better, when they don't touch politics, or in our turbulent times, it could lead to many misunderstandings.

Real talk though the state's been blue since 2008 and last round elected two lady Democrats as their Congresspeople. It's not a particularly strong blue state but lately it's been one. But there is a grain of truth to the South of the North thing. As weird as that is.
