I'm assuming Drew spent the whole race writing down feverish notes.

Just to add another wrinkle to the fun fact Danny mentioned: Sergio Perez also has been classified in every race, but retired on lap 69/70 in Austria, resulting on him being classified 17th due to completing over 90% of the race. His late drop resulted in Pascal Wehrlein being bumped into 10th points and giving Manor their only points so far this season.

Weird thing I noticed totally cheating on guessing on who Danny's fun fact driver was.

Hey guys,

This is Dave from "Wisconsin," Loved the podcast and your feelings on the race mostly mirrored mine.

However I have 2 clarifications and 1 question. I am not that much of a badass. I was in Wisconsin for work that Friday, but drove 3 hours to the Milwaukee airport. Then flew 3 hours back home (to dallas) and drove 4 hours to Austin. Still a lot of travel, but I did not drive from almost Canada to almost Mexico.

The other is that those meat things (people call kolaches) came from Czech Stop in West, Texas . While most of the nation has only heard of West from the fertilizer plant explosion 3 years ago that made the news. Most people in eastern Texas know West as the home of Czech stop.

And lastly, what happened with that Limburger cheese. did it make the trip or was it too intimidating?

Sitting at Turn 12, there was also a lot of clapping for the Haas boys. Meetup was great, thanks for getting everyone out there. Montreal 2017!

I finally went to an F1 race, what have you guys done to me? I had a blast though. It was pretty funny spotting all the people there for the T Swift concert as I walked around. It was so much easier to keep track of all the little battles in back when you're not at the mercy of the FOM camera director. Our bleachers went insane when Alonso got that pass done.

Dunno if I'd do it every year (maybe GA tickets?), but now I feel like everyone should try to go to a race if you're into F1.

@dfine321: i had a feeling they were describing a hot chubby! I rode down from ft worth, but took 281 so no Czech stop for me. But I often ride down to West for the kolaches with saurkraut. Thanks for exposing them to one of my favorite things about texas

Haha, I too thought "Can't you get those meat biscuits just outside of Waco?" Really loved the race and the meetup.

My experience at the track was odd. I was at a different turn every day so I experienced 15, 4, and 9 in that order. Turn 15 wasn't nearly as glamorous if you were near the bottom but it was still cool. Those premium seats are much more comfortable than the bleachers. Turn 4 wasn't great, general admission would have probably been a better option honestly. I really enjoyed Turn 9 on race day. You could see lots of overtakes at both turn 11 and on the DRS straight. I was on row 33 so I had a lot of height. It probably wouldn't have been as good if I had been lower.

Also, big thanks to Gibson Bar also for putting up with us all. It was barely big enough for all of us, plus their normal crowd but it worked. I was just thankful they didn't have the meetup downtown/6th street. Didn't get enough time with the two honored guests but when you've got what seemed like 50 people all trying to talk to the same 2 people it's not surprising. All of the fans at the meetup were real cool, even got to hang out with a few at the track/concert which made the experience even better.

It was an exhausting but fun weekend and would definitely do it again if the Alt F1 guys repeat the visit!

Kind of sad that the "Best of Team Radio" didn't include Ricciardo's explanation of the "catch that motherfucker" transmission.

Transcript:

DR: Not the most exciting, but it's a podium. Thank you

PIT: So we were obviously unfortunate with the [Virtual Safety Car]. It was due to, Verstappen had a gearbox problem, obviously, and retired. So, Rosberg basically would've been five seconds behind us that pit stop, but he got a free ten seconds; came out five seconds in front of us. Um, I think you would have and should have beaten him. I don't think he had any scary pace. You did a good job today mate.

DR: Yeah. I don't doubt it. It's frustrating but, what do you do? It sucks. Um, alright. Thanks anyways guys.

PIT: Alright Daniel, that was a good drive. I think Rosberg, on a normal strategy would've probably put the soft on as well because he'd run that hard in the middle sector so, um. And they did, uh, play out your nice message on the, uh, live feed, so had the commentators trying to work out what a "motherfucker" is.

DR: It means, uh, he's a really nice person, one of my best mates.

I was watching the USGP with my dad, and was fascinated at how F1 has changed since he watched, and he was actually at Spa back in the '70s. It was jarring for him to see that Circuit of the Americas be so large and winding. Most importantly, he was surprised to know how I learned up on my free time the ins and outs of F1.

Boy the F1app cancelation process is AWFUL. I've got it before couple of months to check it out. You can't cancel from the app or site, you need to verify a lot of bullshit, they have like 100000 days in order to confirm your cancelation.... the app is great but I will never subscribe again. :(

PS: awesome race

@dfine321: @baxterpunch: I am basically Czech. Well, not really, but thats a long explanation. And i still have no idea what is that meal you are talking about. Kolach, or rather "koláč" is a word meaning cake. And when you say "West", what are your refering to? I assume Czech stop is some kind of shop/food place in America, that is run/for czech community there?

@kubqo: I think they are technically sold as klobinsk. The kolaches are delicious small cakes, but for some reason everyone just uses kolaches for both

And West is the city name. The city is actually called west

@dfine321: Austinite with a czech wife--the misuse of the term drives her nuts down here.

We were at the race, too! We've gone every year of the Austin GP and try to hit one or two other races a year. It's a good excuse to travel to new places.

I almost wore my Giant Bomb hat in case we ran into Drew or Danny.

@dfine321: Oh okay, thanks! I haven't actually seen that around here so i wonder if its a specific regional thing or its actually just something completely "americanized".

Hey guys heads up on those bug bites, they are mites called chiggers that burrow into your skin and might still be alive (up to 5 days I think?). I've had success putting clear nail polish over the bite to suffocate them but that's colloquial (TX) so YMMV.

On a side note, you'd think the COTA landscaping would be able to combat that. There are millions of square miles of golf courses in this country with tall grass and they seem to manage them for the most part.
