I would love to see a race in the rain. What are the options left this season? Spa can get wet I'm sure, Suzuka? The others don't seem like rainy places.

Sounds like I picked the worst race to miss this season, and I also forgot to DVR it... time to find an archive.

What a race, I thought it wouldn't get any better than Canada. Those last ten laps had me almost out of my seat.

Is that ham from cater?

Also Drew was comenting on the drivers on inters going of the line to cool the tyres, From what I understand the tread on the tyres moves around more than the flat surface on a slick thus creating more friction and heat, this combined with a drying track will result in the tyres going beyond optimum operating temperature, I think

anyway thanx to danny and drew for another great podcast, and the people in the thread for some interesting race banter. Have a good trip back to Europe danny!

See you guys for Belgium in a couple of weeks, Cheers!

Both the qualifiers and the race were AMAZING ! After hearing all the fuss about "Yeah, the Hungarian GP is the worst. It's just a turnstile, there is no overtaking possible. It's basically Monaco without the walls."

Well SHIT ! Can't wait for Spa, I already love the track, I can't imagine what is going to happen considering how this season have been going so far.

Also, I'm happy my Grosjean story got read :')

The Codemasters F1 games usually come out at the end of September. I doubt they're even allowed to skip a year; the terms of having the F1 license probably require them to come out with something.

There have totally been champions from Australia. Jack Brabham won in 1959, 1960 & 1966 and was the only champion to win in a car he built himself and Alan Jones also won a championship in 1980.

Lotta people think if they were gonna announce F1 2014 they'd have done it at E3.

Rosberg, Vettel and Bottas were so unlucky with that Safety Car timing, they lost the race there.

The SC came as they had just passed the pit entrance, and had to queue up behind it, and do a slow lap, while the guys that were further behind on the track could just dive in the pit.

Basically they got penalized for being up front in the race, that happens....

About the podcast @drewbert@dannyodwyer:

Yes there has been previous Australian Champions: Jack Brabham, the only driver to have ever won the championship on a car he build himself, passed away this year by the way. And also Alan Jones, he was an OK driver who won in 1980 because he had the most reliable car of that season.

You were mentioning the Abu Dabi race in 2010 were Vettel won his first championship, for me that was a great victory. He basically, during the whole year, was never ahead in the championship, only took the lead on the last race and won the championship, that never had happen before.

He went to that race in 3rd with 231, Webber was in second with 238 and Alonso was in first with 246, and basically, could just win the race and be the champion independently of any other driver result, but it was Vettel who own the championship.

That was a great year where 3 divers had the chance to win the championship at the last race, it was such a drastic change from a couple of years before that, when Ferrari and Schumacher would have won the title by mid season.

Remember in 2004, Schumacher was the Champion already at the Hungary GP, basically where we are now on the championship this year, what a bummer that era was...

This was the first F1 race weekend I've watched, got to see a little bit of practice on Friday, watched Qualification live on Saturday, with the Grand Prix on Sunday and MAN am I glad I did! I've always been a fan of racing games, the first one being something on the Genesis, which looking back on now must have been an F1 game. I've tried searching for it on the site, but I can't find it. I remember the cover having a dude's face in a racing helmet with the visor flipped-up and black and yellow featuring prominently on it. That aside, I had a blast watching the race! From Hamilton's fire on Saturday, to him defying team orders on Sunday, the weather and the differing strategies of each team... I'm so stoked to get into this when I did. Now I just have to figure out how to watch Spa in three weeks.

The tyres are designed to go on wet surfaces where they will get alot of constant cooling and therefore on a dry surface without that cooling they will overheat. In the same way you will have a really hard time getting the temperatures up with slicks on a wet surface.

The treads moving around is just one of the things the engineers take into consideration when designing the tyres. If you wanted an treaded tyre for dry usage you could totally design that aswell without having it overheating but for obvious reasons it would be less grippy..

Man, I was really looking forward to this podcast, while watching the race, because it just had to be great now.

Well, I always hated the summer break, but now that we had a series of pretty great races it's just terrible. Really can't wait for Spa.
