Just to give more context into Alonso giving Herbert the almighty smackdown, (Warning: tabloid-level drivel) here's the load of horseshit Herbert wrote for Sky that prompted Alonso to do so.

Herbert's already someone I didn't hold in high regard (absolutely destroyed by Schumacher at Benetton, won 2 races in '95 only by attrition, won his final race in '99 in a rain-fueled lottery). Then he decides to question Alonso's motivation, which I find rather hypocritical because Herbert showed that supposed high level of demotivation in his final season at Jaguar right from the getgo. Alonso's willing to continue driving that utter dog of a McHonda and even helping Vandoorne acclimate to driving it shows that he's still highly motivated. For writing such utter bullshit, Herbert can go pound sand.

Danny r u high? Several drivers lately have scored points on their debut, nasr finished 6th on his debut last year and Magnusson finished 2nd on his debut the year before, there's been a couple more over the years as well. Vandoorne certainly isn't the first driver to score on his debut since vettel.

Edit: Sorry if I come off as a little incendiary and I know this is a pretty casual podcast, but you guys tend to make quite a lot of factual errors and idk its kinda frustrating to hear sometimes.

@nkster: in Danny's defence, I'm quite sure that was mentioned during Channel 4's coverage, and he would have no reason to doubt them. I'm sure corrections are appreciated by the guys, but as frustrating as it is to hear things that are inaccurate, they're not actually reporting on any of this and, therefore, not really likely to be fact-checking everything they hear. Our criticism and corrections should have a tone that takes that into consideration!

@ratamero& @nkster: The real stat is, that he is the first driver in that period to score points in his first race - excluding season premieres. So basically the first reservedriver to score in his debut. I totally understand why that stat can be misleading and explained wrong. It's a stupid stat.

@ratamero: fair enough, I get that this isn't reporting and I don't expect fact checking but that stat was just so obviously wrong that it was really jarring espically as I, someone who actually doesn't follow f1 too closely, knew straight away it was totally wrong without looking anything up.

And what was that rambling about China "and the cities" (sic)...Danny you really, really come off as very ignorant when you talk about foreign countries. It's one thing when it's the innocuous inaccuracies or inoffensive prejudices, but please when it's about serious issues think deeply about what you are saying. You want to compare countries where political opponents are murdered, journalists are tortured and imprisoned, women are executed for "adultery" (maybe after they were raped), your online activity is limited, etc etc etc to the USA? Or let's compare the problems for immigrants in the UK with what happens to immigrants in these middle eastern countries where state officials take your passport and you are forced to work in the worst conditions (safety concerns? ahahahah)...

And i'm writing this being neither from north america or the british isles (rather, i'm actually very critical of some policies from these states like, i don't know, extraordinary renditions?) so it's not about ethnocentric or nationalistic point of views and blindspots for me. But, christ, you can't reduce to "depends how you feel about them" when you talk about the most basic human rights which are a factual thing

As a Canadian dude that gets righteously indignant about some of the shit that goes down south of the border, I think I know where Danny's coming from saying the USA doesn't have a leg to stand on when comparing it to China. Essentially utilising their inflated prison population as slave labour is scummy as fuck.

That said, it's still way, way, Waaay better than China.

Although Canadians can't really throw stones, with our aboriginal population and all.

But! You should never be afraid to give your opinion on something, Danny, including world politics and whatnot. I very much enjoy hearing what you have to say.

I LOVE F1! But as someone who only started watching in 2013 it really does seem like the sport has lost a lot of its appeal since the glory days of the lat 1980's.

Great podcast as always. As others I couldn't help but cringe a bit when Danny repeated the incorrect vendoor stat and then talked about Magnussen right after, but I probably only remember because I follow my fellow Dane, so I forgive ;). Can't wait for next warmup cast!
