1 meal out of a week (assuming 3 meals a day) is 1/21 ~ 4.7% so that checks out.

When you're raising Dan Ryckert, you basically have to manage a Taco Bell at some point for the employee discount.

@goosemunch: that's assuming that all those 3 meals are equal in size. Which wouldn't anywhere close to true for me.

Not that it matters, good for Dan!

Please never do an episode on cryptocurrency. GB has such an uninformed hate boner for crypto that I would spend that whole episode rolling my my eyes and facepalming at the gish gallop.

Re: "Why does #1 brand coca-cola continue to spend advertising money?" Just the other day I heard a piece on Marketplace related to that. It's a pretty brief blurb glossing over the result of some researcher's findings.

Coca-Cola nearly doubled its advertising this year - Marketplace

Part of it is to remind customers to use their product and to remain "top of mind" (stay the default option in customer's minds). And yeah, for 2020 Coca-Cola cut back their marketing spending because of the pandemic and they are ramping back up. And the spend isn't always on traditional commercial slots.

I really do wish this episode was about the food crisis and how it affects the environment and people in poverty, and how fast food plays a part in that.

Thanks for refusing to talk about crypto! Few people properly understand it. Just like other technologies, crypto is in its infancy and it'll take time to get the details figured out.

Actually an episode on crypto and nft's would be timely, not enough people know how much of a pyramid scheme it all is and crypto enthusiasts love to tell you otherwise (for no particular reason I'm sure..).

I've watched the stream Dan did where he ordered as much stuff on the Taco Bell as the woman would allow him when he asked for everything. I'm pretty sure he said he liked the sour cream that was in some of it, as he had never had it before.

He'll be a Shingy-like figure who gets paid an annual salary of millions to come in one or two times a year to randomly utter a food idea to executives.

@heatdrive88: Right? Or about the production process, or the food science they've done to manipulate satiety, or really just anything deeper than simple marketing practices that occur in every industry.

I usually love this series, but I swear somehow Jeff must have found the three most disinteresting, sanitized videos about the fast food industry on the entire internet. This episode didn't need to be Fast Food Nation or Earthlings or whatever, but it could have had *some* kind of depth or teeth to it.

Inditex is the world's second biggest clothing brand (they own Zara and a bunch of other chains). They have a zero TV advertising policy. They do in-store ads, obviously have storefronts and I think they may do some print stuff, but no TV, no traditional ads. The idea is not stupid. If you're everywhere and you're the go-to maybe all those showoff-y big traditional ads make no sense, particularly in the modern world of on-demand content. I hate to say it, but this may be one of those where Dan has a point and bunch of it is just the inertia of some of these brands being associated to traditional creative media advertising.

Even a big brand like Mc Donalds needs to advertise because while you'll have regulars and stuff that always will go regardless not everyone is tied to a specific place like that which is why there is a constant revolving door of new promotions going on that they advertise with.
