Lockdown 2020: Brad Tries a 2014 Best Music Contender

I played this not too long ago. It's ok. Until it's really irritating later on. But that's all Donkey Kong Country games. It's a good one of those, none the less.

More Brad solo content is a thing I can get behind.

Mining cart sections are complete garbage. Can't see far ahead enough to react. Basically trial and error. Most of the on rails sections of this game were so frustrating it kinda brought the incredible platforming of the rest of the game.

This game actively tries to prevent Brad from what he does most: stopping mid run. That’s why he’s struggling with it so much.

“Gasp! Saxophone solo?!” Oh, Brad. You sweet summer child.

Really enjoying these Bradley solo streams. Keep up the good work.

Nice. One of the best platformers ever made along with Rayman Origins and SMB.

(yes, I consider pretty much all Mario games to be lower tier than those games)

I'm so glad this game is getting a bit of vindication on this site. I love the soundtrack and it was very quickly dismissed during GOTY. Brad has given this soundtrack and Ori's some redemption this year, and I couldn't be happier.

I hope Dan is smiling at us from wrestling heaven after this stream. And Brad--if you like this game, please keep going. It's a great game--though very difficult later on (Breaking Brad style).

Also unless you are going to put in in a case or be moving it around you can just toss some Arctic Silver or equivalent and a small heatsink on it for now. I took a northbridge heatsink off an old motherboard and cut it down.

If no one mentioned it to Brad in the stream chat. Funky Kong is essentially every Kong in one. He can stand on spikes, he can hover, he can roll forever like DK + kong etc. I wouldn't recommend playing as him the first time through but he's fun to play as if you just want to blow through the game on repeat playthroughs.

Brad playing Nintendo platformers is pretty good stuff.

Tropical Freeze is a damn fine game that's extremely well made. But since then, I feel like Yooka Laylee 2 was a step up. Breaking Brad: The Impossible Lair?

Ah, Brad loves bouncing around with Cranky so much!

I forgot how much production value went into this game. Every platform is connected to the environment or the background in some way; nothing is just floating in mid-air. Everything moves and reacts to what is going on and stomping around and pulling plugs is constantly reshaping everything around you. It's all so weighty and dynamic and happening all the time.

Good work on that seal boss. I must have tried it about 30 more times and gave up.

Watching this after Jan fight Bloodborne's Blood-Starved Beast. Two bosses that broke me on otherwise great games.

I was really impressed with The Impossible Lair, it certainly cribs a bit from DKC, but is also a great game in its own right. I 100%-ed that game and still had a bit of trouble with the Impossible Lair level, can't wait to see some speedrunner beat the game without taking a hit.

For those not in the know, basically, the final level (the titular Impossible Lair) is available immediately from the start of the game, but beating other levels basically gives you an extra health point per level to use in the finale. If you beat every level, you have 48 hit points (and like I said, I still had a bit of trouble with that much health). Reminds me of Breath of the Wild...would be interesting to see other games adopt this design.

@beard_of_zeus: It's a cool bit of design. I remember Chrono Trigger letting you visit Lavos early and it feeling like you're breaking a rule of games.

BotW and Impossible Lair let you go straight to the end, which I really had no desire to do, but I appreciate it's there. Feels like a tough thing to balance and implement but both games nail it.

Brad, just because Jeff is done with Animal Crossing doesn't mean the world is done with it...the community for this game will flourish for years to come. Even with the old games it does get to a point where you might just play an 30 mins to an hour a day, but that's just how the games are.

People like Abby will keep doing her own thing every day, managing her towns appearance or just relaxing and catching fish/bugs. Others will just log on to check stores and other minor things. The game is different things to each person.

I feel like, similar to the Souls games, the difficulty of this has been oversold a bit. Maybe it's because I've played all the DKC games, but this one was a nice challenge but not "masocore".
