as someone currently playing through dark souls for the first time, brad mashing on the buttons is driving me INSANE

Definitely, I love dat bleak. Those were my favorite levels in Dark because I feel they had the strongest atmosphere and, unlike Undead Burg/Parish, Depths, Blighttown, Sen's, and Anor Londo, not just a re-tread of the levels and ideas in Demon's. Gargoyles might be more justified in-game than maneaters but man, that maneater music puts the fear in you. I'll have to give the edge to Yurt though just because Lautrec's voice acting is so hilariously dumb "I'm gonna go do this evil thing...hehehehehehe!!".

My first playthrough was a pure knight with a few miracles towards the end game. I stuck to the fluted armor and yurt's later on because they look cool, though mixed with lighter leggings for more speed. Playing this game pure melee is a different experience altogether than Brad's. My second character was a kick-ass witch who wrecked everything with magic.

I just don't get the complaining though. You know that Brad is playing this game when you go to watch this stream. You know his playstyle by now. Just accept it. Embrace it. If you don't, then just... don't watch? It would be a lot more fun for you too, if you just accepted his playstyle and enjoyed the game with him.

The 'then don't watch' part wasn't specifically addressed to any of you; just saying in general.

I really hate the "if you don't like it don't watch it" response but I don't really have a counter-point to offer - I mean if it's not fun for someone to watch, then yah they probably shouldn't be watching it. Part of it is that a lot of people are passionate about gaming and tend to forget that everyone plays at their own pace. The ones who go off in chat and say "Brad is such a bitch/ OMG he is SO bad at games!" are the lowest common denominator and kind of an embarrassment to the community. Everyone else that might lose it at one point and say "just GO just do SOMETHING!" probably don't mean any harm by it and are really enjoying the show - it's just frustrating at times when both Vinny and Brad ask what something does, or how to do something, and you totally know but there is no way to tell them so you kind of start losing it, because you just want them to see that next cool thing up ahead.

@zevvion: These are one of my first Brad subscriber streams and I do get a little frustrated at most of the things Brad does and says, but I think it's making me a better Dark Souls player. I don't hate him though. I think it's just such a huge contrast to the charge-in-and-see-what-happens way that Vinny does it. I can see some of the things Brad is doing that I'm yelling at him not to, but I find myself doing too when I play. Since I see it from another perspective I was able to adjust my strategies. So in the end I'm getting some entertainment and getting better at the game.

Also, I wish he would just hold that shield button down.

Don´t worry Brad it is much more entertaining to see you fighting enemies as a man, dying in the process. Than seeing you shooting magic at them from range.

But Please! Would it not be more fun to discover things youre self than taking everyones tips?

Another fun stream. The souls games continue their renaissance. The only generic advice I have for Brad is to be more measured in attacking and rolling. Jamming on either button wastes stamina and leaves you open. Wait for an opening, know how many hits you can get in, don't over-engage, roll when needed, and always keep that shield up!

These are the best streams ever but please for the love of god Brad every time you hit the nexus upgrade something/level up if you can and make sure everything is repaired its these kinds of things that create an artificial difficulty level that end up making it unnecessarily hard for first timers.Use the tools the game has presented you with. Seeing him take on 4-1 with an un upgraded falchion makes me cringe. Even still im so glad your doing this guys keep up the awesome content

Also vinny, how did you not tell him about the merchant in the hole. How did chat not tell him. He would have gotten a bow to fight the mantas. Or really I just wanted vinny to tell him this, and have him take the path with the golden skeletons. That would have been the best. So much disappointment.

What? You can punch those skeleton guys and do more damage with fists than a weapon? Haha. You can even stun lock them. That's amazing. FromSoftware are the worst. They're like the biggest jerks in the industry.

This whole kick some of you are on about how he should not use magic is absurd. Its a part of the game. Its one way you can choose to play the game. Just because it is not how you would play the game, does not make it any less "right". There is no wrong way to play these games.

Vinny wasn't trying to fuck with him, he was trying to guide Brad towards the answer without just flat-out saying it.

Pro tip, but there is a reason as to why you can target that area specifically. If you hit it enough times he falls down and then you can hit his head.

Wow, the Demon's Souls Brad is playing as a Royal where you can just mash the attack button or spam magic to kill things sure is different from the Demon's Souls I played.

Never take the compressor off during a souls game again...

I CAN NOT believe he was doing so much damage punching those skeletons. I spent so much time there NEVER knowing that. So pissed.

I might have missed it, but prompted them to try fighting with their fists? Crazy how effective it was.

Also it's mind boggling how super cautious Brad can be, and also super reckless too.

@nasar7: Ha, that laugh was definitely super dumb and obvious, but that's kind of what I loved about it. After Yurt, hearing Lautrec do that was like, "Waiiiiiit a minute there, buddy. I hope you're not thinking of doing what I think you're thinking of doing!"

I think for me the difference between Demon's and Dark is perfectly encapsulated with the Maneaters and Bell Gargoyles. Demon's did it first, so in a sense, Dark Souls is just ripping off its predecessor. It's basically the exact same fight. But so while Demon's gets points for originality, that fight was also so frustrating my first run through the game that I put it down for seriously like eight months. Eventually I had to cheese my way through it by exploiting a spot in the fog gate you could shoot arrows through so I could finally move on with the game. In Dark Souls, it's easier, sure, and it's unoriginal, sure, but you can't exploit it and it comes so early in the game that it forces you to learn the mechanics of evading if you haven't already. The only way to cheese that is to invite in Knight Solaire and a couple humans, but that's just using the mechanics of the game, not an exploit.

More than design differences though, I really love when both games juxtapose that glamorous, shimmering ideal we have of medieval fantasy with a really dark, kind of horrific tinge, so by nature, the aesthetic of a harrowing fight against living gargoyles on top of a church on my way to ring a bell just appeals to me more than a cramped fight around a small fire on a small bridge in a dark, depressing environment, even if that latter fight is more intense as a result. And obviously stuff like aesthetics is just personal preference than anything else.

My characters have always been straight melee, so yeah, definitely, it's very different than how Brad plays, and even different than Vinny in that I tended to try and stay as light and agile as possible. I was determined in Dark Souls to roll quickly without needing Havel's Ring, so I think my endurance rating is literally like 100+. It was so stupid, haha. My guy should be so much stronger than he is. I only realized how off-base I'd been after I took on the Vinny role here with my roommate who I'd finally convinced to start playing. You learn so much when you're teaching someone else how to play.

I've never really messed with magic, but given my interaction with invading players who slaughter me with the stuff, yeah, I'd definitely believe your witch would tear through the game.

I love these, but Brad really really needs to get passed the notion that any tactic in the souls games is too cheap or cheesy to use.

So many ways to play through this game. I kind of want to go back and try something else.

Be careful on that shortcut, Brad. If you fall to the left you can get stuck behind the rocks and only way out is to use the Nexial Ring and lose all your souls.

It happened to me 3 times yesterday, its the worst.

It probably wont happen to Brad, but just in case =P
