I think part of the problem is the fact that brad is having a diffrent experance then everyone else. And when people see this they think he is having it easy. Then when he makes mistakes, people call him bad. Its a catch 22, he is bad at games because he plays on ''Easy mode'' or he is bad because he made a mistake in demons souls by buying Strength when he should have bought Int. or when he should have used his shield. or something like that.

He will never win when people think like that. And you know what, I stopped playing demons souls after the first time i died at the 1-1 boss, so already he is better at demons souls then me.

@fawkes: that sounds about right! I have an image from my eye doctor that looks just like that.

@dagbiker: Brad's doing a great job, actually. I don't think he's bad at this game at all, he just has the benefit of a lot of things the average person going in blind would never have. I actually think Brad would do fine at learning a lot of these fights in a melee fashion, it just a shame he hasn't had to do that yet. The False King fight will get him there, though, I'm sure.

Yeah, but people act like he's running through an old Nintendo game with cheat codes using an emulator. It's more like he's having help from his buddies who played the game before they lent it to him to try and play.

Fist time I defeated the tower knight I had no magic at all, full melee, and it was a bitch... though totally doable, and you get a great sense of accomplishment when you do it that way.

@brad: *buys Fire Spray* "I hope there isn't another use for that particular [boss soul]".

Nah, just the best fucking bow in the game. Don't worry 'bout it. You're a mage. xD Oh, except the bow's fire damage scales with magic and a low Dex requirement.

But at least you can get that all-spells trophy!

I like how after 12 hours, Brad is still super self conscious about wanding. His internal struggle between the glory of melee, vs the convenience of soul arrow is never ending. I get a kick out of it.

Also, Vinny's relentless trolling is fucking hysterical.

I found that the dragon roasting the bridges was the 'boss' of that level, the Tower Knight proved to be a big easy melee target provided you did not stand perfectly still.

BOOO. Man up, Brad!

Exactly. Purist elitists who've beaten the game 5 times and guilt Brad away from magic can bite me.

@poobumbutt: Not everyone who disdains defeating bosses or enemies with magic is a "purist elite," and I doubt anyone was trying to "guilt" Brad out of using it. Brad guilts himself out of using it.

Personally, I avoid defeating enemies with magic because the Demon's Souls AI, particularly for bosses, isn't too great, so "magic strategies" usually employ cheesing their AI to kill them without having to put yourself at risk. Remember how Brad defeated the Grey Demon? Like that. It didn't know how to deal with being shot outside of its aggro range, so it just stood there and ate it.

Besides, there's a certain challenge that comes with embracing and mastering the melee combat, which is undoubtedly the strongest element of the Souls games, and using spells to plink away at enemies who rarely know how to fight back lacks any sort of personal satisfaction.

I hate people trying to give Brad grief for using magic... Any strategy is viable in a Souls game.
