I finally finished the game a few days ago, so it's nice to relax and watch Brad play without worrying about spoilers. Now if only Playstation would put Dark Souls on PSN, I could fully prepare myself for part two in a couple weeks. I miss the days of my blu-ray drive working...

I know reading item descriptions and getting super into the lore and everything isn't necessary, but it's still a part of the game that a lot of people do play for. I would accept that he enjoys the mechanics and playing the game, but like I said, he's stripping so much of it away that nothing unique to the Souls games is even there anymore. If he just likes being a fantasy hero, I can sympathise with that. It just seems like he'd enjoy himself more playing Skyrim or some other game where a major component of the game isn't legitimised griefing.

And you're a little mistaken, understandably. I'm not frustrated with Brad. I find his conflicting attitudes when he plays games frustrating, but it doesn't make me frustrated with him. My desire to see him screw up because of blindly trusting the Internet's advice is more curiosity than anything else.

I get entertainment out of watching Brad play, especially when he does overcome something that he's having trouble with. His determination is admirable; he's not the best at games, and he knows it, but he doesn't let it stop him playing games that are serious challenges for him, and I find it a wild ride seeing him persevere, especially when Vinny and the chat mess with him for quick laughs. I can understand if you don't believe me that I do enjoy watching him play Demon's Souls, or any other game, but that is the truth. I just also find it easy to say a lot of words about the things I observe while watching him play.

To be fair, I should have quit while I was ahead and left it at the one post on part 8; and now that I've made the post on this video, I don't really have anything else to add to the discussion. Even recapping the things that happened in this video I did feel was being excessive, so I will quiet down now and just watch the rest of the playthrough.

I was watching a friend of mine play Dark Souls, and he's had the game for about a week now. He does the exact same thing! He tries to attack after the enemies give out the tell that they are going to attack and ends up taking excessive damage from the regular minions along the way. I've never had this problem, and it seems like Vinny also didn't, judging by his earlier Dark Souls playtrough.

I Googled Potato Marshal and found his Steam profile. He seems to be some moron from 4chan. What a surprise.

I know people that play like that too. I think it's because they block and try to circle enemies for a while, and when the enemies don't attack immediately they simple get impatient. That's probably all there is to it.

Does an item like the red soapstone exist in Demon's Souls? As I understand it, that lets invaders choose who they invade; or maybe it lets people choose who invades them? I haven't actually used it yet, so I'm unclear on it.

The thing that surprises people about the Souls games is that they're incredibly slow and methodically paced, despite how fast battles can move sometimes. I was fighting Artorias last night in Dark Souls, which is a very fast-moving battle, yet it took me about 20 minutes to kill him, because it took between 30 and 60 seconds to get a safe hit in; even when he only had one hit remaining, I had to wait for another minute for him to leave himself open. In Dark Souls, for example, you really can't dash through the undead burg without thinking about it too much until you're level 50 or so. For the most part, the idea is that literally everything in the game has a very realistic chance to kill you; even in 1-1 in this game, those soldiers can still easily wreck Brad if he doesn't pause for at least a few seconds to block their attacks. It's one of the major mental hurdles to get over when playing. The other is having zero attachment to your souls so you don't try to hurry back to them or get frustrated when you inevitably lose several tens of thousands of souls.

I was hoping Brad could make it the entire video without dying. But he made it over an hour despite two phantom invasions!

A lot of these comments are too damn long.

It's not, it costs way too much to be practical on regular enemies so it's only good against certain bosses. For the dragon god soul I'd much rather have fireball as it has pretty decent splash damage, costs way less and has longer range.

I think homing soul arrow is easily the best spell in the game but I doubt Brad will ever use it.

I don't get why he doesn't just dive headlong into unknown territory when dealing with scraping spear users. Sure it seems cowardly, but it's like being presented with the most useless item in the game for 10,000 souls and buying it eagerly. All encounters with it end with a trip to the blacksmith and empty pockets.

I have found that late game demons souls and dark souls players are only ever trying to make another user's experience a bad one. That's why I stopped playing on the PC because of all the hackers.

Fuck you, Potato Marshal.

The more I watch this game played, the more I realize that Bloodbourne might take place in Boletaria. Check out the Boletaria palace then go back and look at the first level.

The first time I played Demon's Souls was the Christmas after it was released and they had a pure white world event so a month later when my brother played it and the event was over, needless to say, I was very confused about the differences.

I must have died 30 times before I gave up on that side area in 1-1 that led to Miralda (this was right off the bat right after the tutorial) and then another 30 times on the bridge. Barely leveling up and slowly running out of items and it still took me that many tries beating my head against the wall before I finally gave up and tried 2-1.

I couldn't even see the damage I was doing to Miralda's life bar.

Going back to this after watching Metal Gear Scanlon, it's amazing how much more hand holdey Vinny is compared to Dan. Vinny is basically giving play by play instructions, all the time. Interesting how people didin't seem to care when Vinny does it. Interesting how Vinny doesn't seem recognize what he is doing.

@zmilla: I agree but I also think there's a difference between the games.

This was a part of Brad's first foray into the souls games. It's a lot more complicated than MGS. Not so much in terms of the game mechanics themselves, but in terms of the penalties and the depth.

You can just plow through MGS games on easy and play them as an action film if you want. Demon's Souls will rip you a new asshole if you try that shit. Furthermore there are large parts of the game that you just wont be able to parse unless you have a guide.

This series is amazing. Surprised I never watched it until now.

Also, seeing Biorr fight that dragon was hilarious. "Leave the flying lizard to me!".
