that tomb raider demo lines up with literally every time i tried to play tomb raider as a kid

Is there a concept page for "Games Jeff Has Held Recently?" Maybe the folks at QLCrew could put together a playlist.

I played quite a bit of Bouncer back in the day. It's an alright brawler type game. I don't get all the hate for it.

Also that little bit of Dark Cloud looks completely different from the final game holy crap.

As much as I miss Drew and Dan in these, I have to admit the Jeff, Brad and Ben combo are entertaining as hell.

Look I'll completely give you that The Bouncer was super short. It was kinda meant to be played multiple times though. However calling it trash seems nuts. There was a lot of really cool stuff in there at the time for just a brawler, like the all the RPG mechanics. I can definitely see someone saying the game was just okay, but trash seems a bit much.

yeah, that might be the greatest revelation from this demo disc, aside from the Ninja Gaiden on PS2 thing. I like DC but don't really know about it's development history.

Tomba 2 is indeed a GREAT game! However, the English version is very difficult to emulate, due to a particularly nasty copy protection scheme. In fact, it's so bad that Sony only has the Japanese version available on the Playstation Store. So, why not play the Japanese version? They have two different soundtracks, and the English one, in my opinion, is far superior. The two versions also have different intro movies! The Japanese one is about twice as long. Even stranger, the English version has full English voice acting. Why these two versions are so different is beyond me, but it's definitely something I'd like to hear about from the devs.

As it turns out, the English version is now on the Playstation Store. Tomba 2 is really a fantastic game, and holds up very, very well. I wouldn't say it's a game suited for UPF, but it's also fun to watch others play.

EDIT: The one on this demo CD is the EU version.

oh boy, i played that Tarzan game. It was pretty good! I remember somehow acquiring the demo for it through the mail and it was on one of those ultra tiny discs. Weird thing!

Yes Brad, Tomb Raider never played well. It was a neat big game with a decent atmosphere, but the controls were pretty bad and not great for platforming at all. I remember stepping forward and backwards multiple times to hit the 'right' spot. Climbing on ledges also proved to be quite a challenge. Seemed like she would often just jump way too high.

I didn't hate The Bouncer. Then again, the last time I played it was probably at least 15 years ago.

@blacklagoon: Are you sure? It looked a lot like Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu aka "Art Truck Battle". I've played a few of those games, and I'm like 99% sure that's what it was.

@chaser324: Well, I've not played any of these, but Bakusou was developed by Human Entertainment. Art Legend is credited to "TYO" in the video (42:28), and so is Art Camion Geijutsuden in this YouTube video.

Croc was my first 3d platformer and as far as i remember he didn't speak any english. He did do a lot of Yihoo!! noises though. pretty high pitched voice.

The Bouncer could have been amazing, but sitting through 10-20 second load screens every 5 minutes is what really drags it down. That and XP gain is based on who has the last hit on an enemy. Your teammates steal last hits all the damn time. I still sorta like it, though. I think the FMVs are still pretty nice and I love the RPG brawler concept. The storyline is pretty bonkers too with a rogues gallery containing a woman who can shapeshift into a black panther at will.

Also, Jeff showboating his college football team into oblivion is the funniest damn thing I've seen all year.

Sweet Psybadek reference by Jeff. I should give that game a go because even as a kid I remember it being pretty bad.
