E3 2012: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist Demo

That must be a placeholder voice. Even if they got rid of Ironside, they have to be getting a soundalike. Right? Right?!

This actually makes me feel like I want to play another installment of Splinter Cell. I hope Ubisoft brings the pain with this game. 2013 again.

The kids don't want to spend an hour on the same level trying to get no alarms/no kills/no shoots fired anymore....ah well I'm getting too old for this shit anyways.

It looks like Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory are all a thing of the past. And no Ironside? That's just not right...

I don't really care that it isn't really a stealth game any more. Might check it out, still haven't played the last one.

I liked what I saw. I also feel that the gameplay is like a modern day assassin's creed.

So, I don't think that any of these games are ever going to match Chaos Theory in sheer awesomeness, this is looking better than the last few have for sure. I like the inclusion of some of the Assassin's Creed elements.

Also, no Michael Ironside? I'm not sure how I feel about that. At all.

Edit: Watched some more. It is very, VERY weird not hearing Michael Ironside voicing Sam.

So Ironside is gone. Replacing him is Eric Johnson as the voice and face of Sam according to a video on Entertainment Weekly. Weird seeing a guy from the first season of Smallville as Sam.

Not sure how they are going to explain this story wise though as Sam appears a lot younger in this game. Gameplay looks outstanding though. Taking Conviction but adding in better stealth options. I like this evolution as it's always fun to play stealthy but know that just because you make a small mistake that it isn't game over.

I will admit that the lack of any real stealth is kind of weird, but yo, killing in motion looks SICK. In AC3 too. Best new trend.

It was time for Ironside to go. Most of Conviction he sounded, well, less than sober.

I don't know the Splinter Cell games stopped clicking with me after Chaos Theory.

Sorry,voice actor might be decent,but Ubi'd be smart to pay Mr. Ironside in dumptrucks full of cash if necessary to bring him back.

There are games that innovate in small, but noticeable increments, there are those that innovate by leaps, and bounds, and then there are those that don't innovate at all. This game, for me, seems to be kinda the first one. Having said that, it looks like a fun way to kill a few hours. Nothing wrong with that. Plus, it'll hopefully keep the brand alive long enough for them to do something really neat with it in the future. Which will be whatever is hot among the kiddies most likely.

I'm really disappointed that Michael Ironside is not coming back as Sam Fisher again, but that was a pretty impressive demo. Most of all, I'm excited that the knife has come back, too.

It looks pretty cool. I'm not too fussed about the Ironside thing. I mean it sucks but come on people, some perspective.

The focus on action is a shame though. It looks awesome and seems like it'd play well but it's not what I go to a Splinter Cell game for. Once again, as in Conviction, it seems non-lethal takedowns aren't an option either.

As much as I like MI's voice, it is time to move on. Besides, Sam Fisher would be close to 60 by now, wouldn't he?

Well, the game looks amazing, lets see how it goes!

@NickM: Uh yeah, *SC Double Agent Spoilers* well he kinda was on the run after blowing a deep cover operation where he discovered his employers killed his daughter. Sounding "less-than-sober" is pretty spot-on.

@wardcleaver: That doesn't even make sense. If it's a sequel, what logical reason is there to change the voice actor?

Looks cool but I think QTE's are getting overplayed these days. I'll take MGS 4 gameplay (sans cutscenes) over this for 8 straight hours. There is a reason action movies are only 2 hours long you know....

always had a soft spot for splinter cell. the voice is weird.

I think they're using artistic license. Sam Fisher was born in 1957, so today he'd be 55. And in Conviction, looking it up it took place "three years after Double Agent", which looking up was 2007. So he was 53 in Conviction.

I honestly think they're doing artistic license where it's a world where Sam Fisher was born in say... 1975, so in this 2015-ish feeling setting in Blacklist he can be plausibly fit and young-ish. I think that would explain "Fourth Echelon", his youth, and his sudden decision to not totally go live in a log cabin in Saskatchewan to hide from the government.

The game looks good, I just don't really see it as a splinter cell game.

Least try to pick a guy that sounds a bit like Ironside.. c'mon

I loved what they showed of it and I think the new voice actor is good, but I just don't understand why you play as Sam again, I mean, they made him look younger even though he is in his mid 50s, and changed voice actor, so why not just play as a new guy? Really hope they justify it in the story, because Conviction seemed like a fitting end to the Sam Fisher character.
