Endurance Run: Chrono Trigger - Part 31

I've found that these things play a lot better if you skip past the parts where they forget how to play video games....y'know except when it's funny.

Brog totally looked that poor lady right in the eyes as he lied about her son being vaporized to death. That's cold, Brog, real cold.

I feel bad about all the people that harassed them on Twitter about the ship. Yeah, it was a stupid move, but c'mon. I think making fun of it in the comments was enough.

Quit calling this a JRPG, commenters. Anybody who is old enough to have played this game when it was new just calls it an RPG. You're not coming off as more intelligent for loosely applying that dubious term; you're just making me wonder if your testicles have dropped.

@SmokePants: First of all, there is absolutely nothing wrong with calling this a JRPG. Part of history is classifying things, and we're getting to a point where it makes sense to go back and classify video game history. Second of all, Chrono Cross, taken on its own merits, is a fine game.

This game is so COOL! The way the lighting effect disappears during a magic attack highlights just how much this game was pushing the SNES' 16 bit technology. Every time they travel somewhere I'm impressed by the variety, detail and artistic quality of the environments to say nothing of the fantastic music. The story very interesting too which makes sitting through GB's Micheal Winslow worth it (15 S.U.K.s LEVEL UP!).

I like seeing end-of-cycle games because they use all of the platform's capabilities and show what thoes machines are capable off, like Kirby's Adventure for the NES or Eternal Darkness which was originally supposed to be an N64 game. Chrono Trigger is a 16 bit masterpiece.

I was genuinely freaked out when they walked into the cave and just sitting there nonchalantly is Lavos. Granted it was just a Lavos Spawn but it nonetheless caught me off guard; still the idea that Lavos can multiply is unsettling.

Oh sweet God! Oh sweet Jesus! FROG SQUASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm callin' it: best game EVER. I was so enthralled by that warningless psychedelic batrachian that... I... I...

I hope they get a giant Science Hammer next.

Er, even back in the mid-90's there was a massive difference between Eastern and Western RPGs. Chrono Trigger is nothing if not a very Japanese JRPG, derived from older games in the same genre like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest (extra relevant seeing as how CT was essentially a Squaresoft-Enix dreamteam collab). As opposed to, say, Eye of the Beholder or Ultima, which were extremely Western RPGs from around the same time. Because I live in Sweden, an arguably Western place, when someone says RPG, I default to thinking Ultima or, like, Baldur's Gate. When they say JRPG, I think Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. Totally different things. Worth making the distinction.

This. I'm old enough to have played Chrono Trigger when it came out (though I didn't actually play it until a few years ago). I don't see a problem with the term JRPG. It is a clear way of distinguishing between two very different styles of RPG. The Japanese console RPGs and the western developed Computer-RPGs.

LSD frog is the best attack in this game by far.

The more I watch this the more I recall fond memories of playing this years ago.  Chrono Trigger was my first true RPG back on the SNES.

There's so much I could say, but this says it all.

Why is it invaluable to have reduced manacost item to the healer patrick? All the times you guys have been oom its becouse you where spamming damage spells (AoEs on singletargets)

Byan & Batrick messed up a few times. More than some of these times were worthy of being made fun of. There's a sub-group here that treats any making fun of Byan & Batrick's actions as a sin against the holy god of video games. They need to lighten up. If they had their way, the comment section would be nothing but, " Yay! Wooo! Stuff! " and other meaningless and harmless fluff.

I'd like to think this is a place where we can talk about video games, including the less than stellar parts such as poor gameplay. That doesn't mean that we need to get angry about it and slit our wrists, but it also doesn't mean that we need comments like, "Gawd I hate all commentors! Tell these guys that they're doing a good job or I swear I'll hunt you down and [censored]."

Don't put the. mp reduction on the guy casting magic. also wish they gave byla. A chance she hits hard. wonder if they will do any side stuff, just got the sun stone myself and doing robo side stuff now. debating finshing the reptite stuff

I dont think it's that, it the people who just RAGE for the tiniest of things. Making fun of stupid mistakes, has kinda been the GB way. Stuff like brad's QL Death Timer and Vinny casting BUFU. But the stuff like OH MAI GAWD DO THIS THING RARRR~! Is just dumb... because Chrono Trigger is a game about Love.

Hmm... i recall there being more side quests, well, at least there were more things that could be doing... to mess with the time lines.

I love when these guys make the simulatorvids. Really awesome.

The volume on the videoplayer sometimes glitches for me, showing full-volume but actually being turned down. Try moving that slider around, you might have the same problem as I.

@nomoreluck: Its really a shame Wiz got soft like ice cream in the summer time. He had some potential when he was just releasing mixtapes. Always nice to see a Rapper reppin Videya Gaemz though. Takes me back to Del The Funky Homosapien sampling Morrigan's Theme.

Haha, I think the commentary audio was out of sync on this one. You can tell when their humming along with the robot music. It kinda still worked though. like a remix.

Hmm I was playing CT a bit ahead of the guys so I'd had seen what they were doing already in my game. But I need to get to death mountain (sadly I missed how close it was to the keeper dome) before I watch more of these ER's. I've been spending my time climbing mountains on a side quest.

Wait, does Brono really have the Hero Medal equipped?

Much props to the developers for even preparing for that contingency. It's a lot of the little details that make Brono Trigger and other classic JRPG's so great.

It's a damn shame so many people bitched and complained because from the sounds of it, this is the last ER because of it.

Couldn't see if when they scrolled through the list, doesn't make sense though, as it's bonus only applied to the Masamune? Either they didn't think of that, or they didn't scroll through the entire list.
