@bathala: We've had some major video publishing issues going on today. Due to an odd confluence of circumstances it may be a day or two before mine is up.

Vinny died more during this than most of the Dark Souls streams.

Love these streams and boy this one was an adventure! So many ups and downs, a real testament to mans triumph over the cold vastness of space.. and his own folly.

My only small complaint - as usual regarding communication. I missed a good chunk of this because it wasn't on the schedule and typically these happen on Wednesdays. I love all the hard work everyone puts into the streams, but it would be wonderful if there could be more transparency when each stream is happening? Some things I would love to catch live while others I'm fine with skimming the archive.

Only saw a part of this live but watching them wandering into the huge cave halfway through the steam with no tethers and a decent distance away from the ship is like watching a documentary about missing people who went camping and watching found footage of them talking about going for a long hike. Thanks for the Astroneer streams, love these.

I've enjoyed watching this series but this was legitimately one of the craziest things I've ever watched on this website. This is a monolith example of why communication and admitting you need help is so important. Also I guess they're super incapable of learning new information? Use/make landmarks? Idk but this was absolutely a test of patience. Holy shit.

@brad I'm not sure if it was pointed out during the stream, despite the worklight needing power to turn on, it doesn't consume it. So Vinny doesn't need to run around in the dark so much, unless he likes the spooky ghost stuff.

They pretty quickly found each other on the surface by using the teleporter as a landmark. As someone who has gotten lost in astroneer caves while fully prepared and geared its confusing as hell to navigate underground. These are the mistakes you can make in these games and they got their stuff back in the end, spending an hour looking and finding your stuff is not the worst. Vinny also makes use of built landmarks in this and a lot of other games by building towers, you are a lot more limited in a dark cave with multiple obstructions to line of site, you can only really go by way-markers which the game gives you as tethers, they could have used them unpowered but if you lose the tether line in the dark thats not much help.

@curiosus: That's fair but Vinny tried the same thing like 5 times in a row, something something sisyphus and his boulder. The main issue is Vinny dying over and over again and not trying to solve the issue in any other way. I grow tired of old white men being stubborn, sorry.

Watching these videos led to me and a buddy playing through this game to do the thing to see the credits. This game is great. Except for a few bugs, mostly on the player 2 side of things, we had a blast. We were a little more prepared when we started going to other planets than Brad and Vinny are. I'm glad we did it our way and I'm glad they did it theirs. Its fun to see how our preparations saved us some trouble.

@babyboy420: I think the main issue here is you are making a mountain out of a mole hill and being a dick while doing so.

I haven't been watching these but I also just recently got to the moon in my playthrough. Excited to see how they find out the thruster has a limited number of uses.

Well, at least they didn't get stuck in orbit.

I love these streams so much, Astroneer was my GotY during early stages and the year of release, and Brad + Vinny is just the perfect GB combo to play. Sure Astroneer can be punishing if you forget to bring oxygen on your space flight, but that only makes sense, and they found some pretty fun ways to deal with it.

The "swiss cheese" symptoms some of the planets suffer from can be dealt with utilizing patience and practicing paving/caving your way efficiently. Rushing to get one element from a planet will just sour your experience I've found.

I have faith that you could have expressed this issue in many other ways without being extremely offensive and without bringing up age and ethnicity. I'll try and navigate caves a bit better and maybe you can try and navigate people a bit better. We were just goofing around on a stream.

Good lookin out, duder! I forgot all about ffmpeg when I was trying to put the videos together for the MC stream last week. I might have to tweak this and give it a shot with this and my download of Brad's Twitch VOD.

Never used ffmpeg for anything like this, though. Which command in this offsets the start time to sync up the videos? Or did you just trim the videos beforehand to do that?

Edit: Oh wait, I see. The "-ss" command.

@conduitfoursale: I don't think I'd phrase it that way or even blame one person specifically in this blind leading the blind feature. There's bound to be some stumbling and you know there will be hijinks on a GB stream. But like I said in an earlier episode, this game quickly becomes a struggle without some decent observational skills and attention/care being paid as you progress. And maybe an Austin/Abby-style "VINNNYYY!" every now and then lol.

Also, man yall are lucky they're playing this now. If this were a few updates ago half their shit including the shuttle would be missing, swallowed up from carelessly digging and flattening under platforms and items. Not to mention the whole game becoming a chug fest from all the tethers.

This is the most realistic depiction of Mars colonization I've ever seen.

Pro tip for spelunking: A tractor is an infinite oxygen source and I think it also makes you gravity-proof?

@robo: Yeah the -ss is the fast seek and then I used trim and atrim in the filter complex to make sure I caught a keyframe. It should work as-is with the twitch VOD. In the output file you'll get the two original audio tracks and a third merged track which sounds insane but was useful for checking sync.

@vinny: Vinny, I think if you actually believe being called an old white man is offensive, then there's a mountain of realizations you gotta make about privilege in America. I genuinely love your content but like I said, watching stubborn dudes trying something over and over again is a massive test of patience and I really wanted to enjoy this stream. I was frustrated so I posted a comment. Read my other one if you're confused.

There's nothing about the fact that he's white or 38 years old that's relevant to how they played the game. You are probably right on most of your views about institutionalized racism, but having the correct views doesn't give you carte blanche to demean anyone else. You were frustrated by the way they played this game, and separately you are frustrated every day with a system that perpetuates violence against marginalized people. Trust me nothing is causing it to show its face by what you're seeing the news right now.

But trying to sting someone by writing that you "grow tired" of them, and then associating them with white privilege in America, just to relieve your own frustration is a bit childish. I think you're confused if you don't realize you should apologize and take his advice to learn to navigate people.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. GB has been around a while and I've seen masculine shit get in the way of their content many times. I've lost my patience and I'm allowed to articulate that.

Honestly, these Brad + Vinny streams have been a real highlight of my week during these trying times. I know you've both surely got your own challenges and the fact you can still provide such entertainment on a daily basis is really something, thanks a lot! Love this crazy swiss cheese planet.

This just makes me think Robert Heinlein presents Vinny Caravella's Red Planet.

The first half with the desert hijinks, not the second half with the government vs colonies story. Vinny needs his own Willis for these.

As much as I enjoy the random fuckery, it's sadly also a bit frustrating to see no real progress as things that should lead to progress are getting ignored because you guys are too busy rebuilding low-tier base stuff from scratch and losing all your gear over and over again.

Case in point: Wolframite only exists on two planets, it's used to make Tungsten with which you can build the Chem-lab that can create even more new resources. Those are needed for pretty much all the mid-tier/high-tier stuff, like bigger trucks/shuttles, the crane, the winch, and tons of other cool tools to screw around with.

In that context, it really pays off to have at least some preparation and a rough plan of what to do with an expedition like: "We can't get further down the tech tree without Wolframite, let's go on a space-trucking mission to haul a bunch of it back to our main base!".

That way you get bigger vehicles (with drills!) and bigger shuttles to load these vehicles on, allowing you guys to explore new planets in style with a fancy vehicle convoy ;)

@vinny: @brad: I wanted to take a second to let you guys know that I love this series. It's some of, if not, my favourite content on the site in a long time. I hope you guys keep playing how you like to. I really enjoy the way you two just kind of dick around and make fun while loosely working towards a nebulous goal. Making up side quests as you go along. Lol Keep up the good work. And stay safe. /hugs

I love Vinny and Brad, love this game

but this was one of the most frustrating things I've watched on here.

Please use the flattening option of your terrain tool more.

Its perfect for exploring caves and quickly building ramps between different levels,

it's more useful then falling down the same hole over'n over, I promise ;)

I know there's a lot to learn and I'm being a dick

but you're ignoring stuff you're supposed to have learnt hours ago.

I'm looking forward to the next adventure but dear God I hopen you learn Vinny :p

Thank you Vinny and Brad for doing these streams, giving us amazing entertainment to enjoy during these times. Your Astroneer streams are the ones I'm looking forward to the most every week.

And to the people feeling frustrated over the 'lack of progress', I'll try to say this in the most calm and collected way I can muster, by using the words of one Jeff Bakalar:
"Get yourselves some real problems." =D

@toxicantidote: I don't want them to "powergame", I just think they are missing out on a ton of extra fun fuckery by not getting into those higher tech-tiers because there's some really cool stuff in there.

That's why it's a bit frustrating to see them run into Wolframite, and just completely ignore it, even tho it's actually quite an important resource to find.

They are obviously still wrapping their heads around how a lot of the stuff works in the game, how the planets are tiered, and progress to new tools/vehicles is gated by resources, that's why I gave a quick explanation for it.

This does not mean that I don't enjoy watching Brad and Vinny building worlds, I just want to help them building worlds because the game is not exactly great at surfacing most of that stuff.
